  • TV tuner program

I have a WinTV Radio card and for the moment it seems I am stuck with the VFW drivers, so I cannot use programs like Power VCR II and WinDVR. Unfortunately, the Hauppauge apps don't seem to supply the correct overlay to allow DVD Max work with my G400. Are there any Hauppauge compatible apps out there that could replace the WinTV applications? I tried the FreeTV app, but it's in German and I really only want something simple.

I like MoreTV. I nearly only use this and not the stupid Hauppauge ones. It has a nice Teletext viewer, too (much better than the Hauppauge one 'cause this one reads all pages in memory at once so after a short while you can type the page-number you want to see and have it shown without any wait).
And it has much less problems with Overlays than the WinTV32 and the even worse WinTV2000 apps - so DVDMax should be no problem.
Don't have an actual working link to it, but if you really can't find it I can send it to you (it's not that big ~400KB).

I tried MoreTV, perhaps someone can explain to me why all these TV apps are all German???? Anyhow, it does support overlay although support for the card itself is another matter. I looked over the procedures for unsupported TV cards, but that is something I will try when I have more time. There was a link on FreeTV's site that supposedly had files for other cards not listed in MoreTV, but it was a dead link. It is shame I haven't run into a program...in English...that supports my TV card, is stabile, and supports the correct overlay. I don't think the Hauppauge apps are necessarily bad, but not necessarily great either!

I have the WinTV Radio as well and it works with MoreTV. Just select WinTV PCI and a Philips tuner.
You can basically do this for nearly every one of the different flavors of Hauppauge's WinTV cards, since they all have the same capture chip (BT878) and tuner (Philips), only very old ones might have an BT848 and another tuner (Temic, I think).
It's the same as with the SBLive: the same product hardware-wise is sold in multiple flavours with minor (mostly marketing) package differences.

Now for the german language, this is another problem. Up to now I didn't even notice that it's language was german, I nearly only use it full-screen (and +/- for channel switching as well as using the keypad for presets is multilingual, I guess...)
