  • Creating VCD Questions

I was wondering, those that makes VCD's, your experiences...please..
    I have a Matrox Marvel G400 and Win98.
    --------------
    I have:
    1) Adaptec EZCD Creator 4 Deluxe
    2) Ligos 3.0 encoder
    3)Ulead Media Studio Pro 5.0
    --------
I am trying to make a VCD and I took a Digital Movie I made with my JVC Digital Camcorder, took the AVI and used Ligos to make an MPEG-1. I then tried to use Adapted EZCD 4.05 and tried to make a VCD, but I got an error message saying
"The MPEG file not support by White Book MPEG" ( or words to that effect). it looks like Ligos has a newer version out 3.5 of their encoder for supporting VCD creation, but geeesh, enough is enough with the cost, more money more money more money. I looked for info on encoders and I already have tons of software and codecs.
What do you guys use successefully to create VCD's? I found some freebie encoder vserions and pleanty of websites with comparrisons and links, but would like to hear what everyone has success with. Thanx.

This forum will help you with all your video and audio questions!

    (I fixed these links)

    -----------

Also, those that use Adaptec 4.0 and Real Network's Real Audio and their software, I found out the hard way, that they have a CD Creator plugin that wacks your Adpatec EZCD 4.0 files, some type of problem, and you have to unistall the programs and re-install them, and I was really pissed because I only found out after it happned to me, and while I dug through the forums, found out there is some type of problem, and had to remove these programs and reinstall them. DOH! They should have Emailed everyone that subsribed to their services about this instead of hiding it in their support forums. I made sure I did not re-install real Networks Real Jukebox again.

I have had good luck making the MPEG-1 with TMPGEnc beta 12 and then burning the VCD using Nero 5 to burn the VCD. If you start with a nice AVI TMPGEnc will make you a nice MPEG-1 and then Nero does the rest. I think Nero is less picky than Easy CD about what file is compliant or not. I have made working SVCD's recently out of some questionable files.

It might be obvious, but, make sure you are burning the
    MPEG-1 with parameters as follows:

    Video:
    1150 kbit/sec MPEG-1
    352 x 240 pixels
    29,97 frames/second

    Audio:
    224 kbit/sec MPEG-1 Layer2

This assumes you are in NTSC country. If I detective on the trail of your burning problem, I would first suspect the audio to be the problem. The innocent little audio track is often the culprit in many a burning problem.

I normally create SVCD's myself these days, but I always found it best to demux (using bbdmux, part of bbtools) and mux using bbmpeg to create a "compliant" MPEG that both EZCD (which is shit BTW) and Nero was happy with. Obviously you need a compliant video and audio stream in the 1st place...

I have been using different versions of Adaptec, 3.5 - 4.0, for most of my MPEG-1, but recently found how much better NERO is.

I use AVI_IO, w\HUFFYUY2, sorry HUF and Duthchmen I know I need to send you money, and TMPGEnc all with default or simple settings. I had been writing all CD's w/Acraptec. Every file I tried to write when I started would give me some protocol error, usually related to one parameter I couldn't define.

I just started telling it to ignore protocol, and write file anyway, and most of the stuff played on my Apex player and all PC players anyway.

        Hope this helps

          Hey stevenscott,

Is that JVC camcorder the DVL100 by any chance? It's on special for only $1300 Australian (roughly halve that figure for US price) at a store nearby. I was curious as to how well the camera performs, if you're happy with it, etc. because that price really is awesome; AUD$400 less than the cheapest Digital-8! Must be something wrong?!

          Thanks.

I have had absolutely no problem making compliant PAL VCD's using TMPEGEnc 12a and Easy CD creator 4 deluxe. Make sure you are using the correct TMPEGEnc template. If you are using NTSC, use the template in TMPEGEnc called "VideoCD (NTSC).mcf", not the one called "NTSC-VCD.mcf". Also, make sure that the audio (under the CONFIGURE section) is set to 44,100, 224kbps stereo MPEG layer 2.
