Try too get a macrovision patch (if there is one for G450tv), the week sync pulse in you video will trigger the copy
protection ,which results in crashing with my G400tv + AVI_IO

    Buy high Quality video cable
Buy/rent a video with a built in T.B.C (JVC HRS8850 for less than 300 uk pounds)
Buy the DVD when/if you're TV program is relesed

    my experience with VCR's :
I have two VCR's the one i paid 90.00uk pounds for 1 year ago, it allways drops frames.
The other is 5 or 6 years old 350.00uk and it drop's much less frames.???

hope the DVD come out soon

AndrewDV: No Circuit City around here. We have a Best Buy, though. I might try that if nothing else pans out. I know someone who has connections with the video department in the local college. He's going to see if they can help.

Zeb7: I've been looking for a macrovision patch for the E-TV, but it doesn't look like there is one, yet. I don't think a better cable will help the picture quality unless you know something I don't... IIRC, 300 pounds is about $600... More than I want to spend. If these shows were coming out on DVD, I wouldn't be bothering.

      Thanks for the suggestions,

      Michelle

        Macrovision Patch

        Michelle,

If you're running the current driver (not the beta), I have a patch for you which disables macrovision. You can give it a try, but are you still dropping frames with the SCC attached? Or does it just lock up your computer?

          Re: Macrovision Patch

I am using the G450 E-TV with Win98SE. According to Matrox's site, there are no updated drivers, so I am still using the ones that came with the card last April. Does your patch work with this?

I don't know if I'm dropping frames, but since I drop 2 frames a minute no matter what I'm capping, I would guess I am. Of greater concern to me is the fact that AVI_IO crashes because the video is so unstable. Since VirtualDub also crashes, my guess is it's the video drivers that are crashing.

The SCC made no visible difference. Will disabling macrovision help? It's not coming up with the "macrovision detected" messagebox. It's coming up with an error and then it BSODs.

          Thanks,

          Michelle

Yep, sounds like you're running into the same problem I am with AVI_IO--dropping frames! Do you drop frames if you only capture video?

As for the macro patch, try this link:

Also, what happens if you record with the PC-VCR?

            Chris

I drop 2 frames per minute no matter what I do. I tried all the suggestions on the Matrox page. Since they're not visible, I stopped worrying about it.

I didn't try from PC-VCR. I'll give that a shot tomorrow. I'm off to bed now.

If you're sure that patch will work with my version, please send it to mcox@charter.net

              Thanks,

              Michelle

                dv cam as TBC

It probably won't help you, Michelle, but I had the same problem capturing old videos on the analog-in of my RT2000. The picture would repeatedly bounce and disappear in the capture, while the old tape seemed to play "okay" on the tv.

Instead of a TBC, I ran the tape through the analog-in of my Sony MiniDV cam and back out through the firewire/1394 port, then into the digital input of the RT2000. This almost completely eliminated the problem. The video captures were quite clean, and only occassionally would I see a 1/2 frame video hit.

Of course, I know the G450 doesn't have digital input, but I'm sure plenty of people have PYRO or other 1394 cards and miniDV cams...

                  TBC or S-Video VCR?

                  Michelle,

I know this topic is quite old, but I was curious if a TBC (Time Base Corrector) or a S-VHS VCR would fix this capture problem. One I'm looking at is a JVC HRS9900. This has a TBC built into the VCR, at least from the specs I read on it. Anyone have any comments or suggestions?

I have just got a VCR with TBC (sharp vc-s2000) , haven't run many test's.

1 . The new VCR drops frames on old tapes, exactly where my non TBC VCR did
2 . the digital noise reduction is very good , if you can't stand watching video tape's
after you moved to DVD this feature is for you (and real time )
3 . On one clip that was very dark the digital noise reduction cleaned up to much ( as did the virtualDub
filter) and picture information was lost .
                    4.No color problems like flashing
5 . if you have ever recorded from your cable box and flicked thought the channels
(picture looses sync and a line runs up the screen)i have noticed that when the sync plus
is at the bottom my VCR zoom in so the bad part of the picture is in the overscan
6 I don't think the analog circuits is as good as the panasonic NVHD-100 ( 5 years old)
but the TBC & Noise reduction make up for it.
7 Remember just because something is digital doesn't mean its better than expensive analog equipment
                    ?
8 i get less dropped frame's when i have less HD's in my PC and when i turn off TV / hi-fi amp /
You would think interference problems would drop frames at random.
I get no dropped frame when capturing off Air .Weak tape produce weak video signals
that are more surseptable to interference

In short a TBC VCR will not a Guarantee
                    0% Dropped frames.

if i can help more just ask
                    zeb
