I still have problems with playback of mpeg or timeshift as I have since I brought this card (G450 eTV) in UK PAL land.
Have tried everything possible short of the new as yet unreleased drivers.
If that fails then there is an replacement card offer that I will take up.
I have trouble believing that there are so few people reported to have this type of problem in Europe, unless the majority of them accept this as a feature or don't want the hassle of complaining.

As a customer service rep and technical support engineer, I would guess about 10-20% of those people actually complain or even call in. I always remember during my orientation 3 years ago: "Your job is to help resolve any problems our customer's may encounter when using our product. Remember, only 10% of those customer will actually look for support--not giving our company any chance of gaining their trust"

I would bet a majority of people who have a "picky eye" will see the choppy playback and take back the card for something else. I would do the same thing, but I always look at a card's potential VS it's features. Besides, at least Matrox tech support has acknowledged the problem and seems willing to help. If only the other depts would work together in order to please their customer. If I had time, I would probably take legal action, but it's not worth $230 for a lawyer, etc.

At lease my good ol' reliable Marvel G200 w/ DVD decoder plays great!! If all else fails, I can always play my MPEG2 files with my G200 and not worry about crappy playback.

i'm in Portugal (PAL) and also i see choppy DVD playback in TV and pc whith my Marvel G450 eTv. I think that is a problem with Pal and Matrox . When i have the G400D/H i can't see the sub-titles and now with G450 is the same thing.

I have:
Pentium III 1Ghz
256 Mb of Ram
DVD 12x Toshiba
and the very latest drivers of Via, DX and Matrox.

It seems to me that don't worth buying Matrox in EUROPE.

This may be of interest to those using windows 2000 have a g450 etv card and experiance choppy playback in PAL when using the matrox supplied dvd player.
On another thread Rob 100 suggested to try the drivers for the G400 TV so I did.
The good news is that the Choppy DVD playback seems to have gone.
This is not a complete fix for timeshifting or Mpeg play back but is a vast improvement.
The driver is the current one on the matrox site (W2k 539.exe).
Note that it will not install via the set up exe as you would normally do but it will via the update driver dialog in the device manager. Provided you go via the "have disk" option it will the give a menu of various cards to install the drivers for. I chose the english version of the G400 TV and it then installed that driver. upon reboot the G450 eTv is now identified as a G400 TV but as long as the g450 eTV video tools as supplied are used it seems to work. I briefly tried the windows98/me version also and that also showed substantial improvement.
Still waiting for the proper driver to be released bus now I have more confidence that a software fix as opposed to a hardware problem should work. Hope this helps anyone with the choppy Pal Playback. Not sure about NTSC as i have no NTSC source material though as it is a much newer driver than the original so maybe it may help.
