  • VCD, SVCD question.

    Hi Folks,
I know the difference between VCD and SVCD, (mpeg1 vs mpeg2, compression etc...)

What I want to know is... If there is a visual difference between the two formats seen on a TV screen?

Is one better looking than the other or are about the same in picture quality only?

    Thanks

Assuming you use a good quality source material, you see a difference for sure. Just think of it (PAL):

    VCD 352 x 288 vs. SVCD 480 x 576

I always compare it like VHS and S-VHS.

    Best Regards,
    Karlson.

It's perhaps even more pronounced than that.

I'd say on a good set like a Sony WEGA the difference between VCD and SVCD is more like that between rabbit ears @50 miles and SVHS
