Yeah Ghydda I think your right.

Maybe without following all the threads it's not to obvious what we are getting at.

But then, I would follow them all before posting.

And I'm 27, for the record.

      On a side note:

May I ask everybody to stay with the MURC spirit. I don't want a flaming war on my thread. So anybody feeling a bit itchy should try to calm themselves down so we can continue this debate on Matrox's latest VT's. This is supposed to be a constructive thread, not a battlefield for flamewars.

      Thank You.

I own a Marvel G200 TV and agree with Ghydda: my video capture card is not usable as Matrox is saying it should be under W2k. They claimed they could not make MJPEG work and thus removed that part from the drivers. Their explanation made sense, and I agree with the idea that in today's world of Athlon 1.4 Ghz and P4 1.7 Ghz, you can -and should- use software codecs. That covers MJPEG.
The only problem is that I want to do just that under W2k with a G200, and cannot capture in YUY2 or RGB. I use the respected VirtualDub 1.4, and Matrox's answer is that they don't support third party capture apps. So where is theirs? GONE! VCR has lost its recording button. They don't even consider the fact that there might be a problem with their software.
Obviously the released "final" drivers have not been tested with a Marvel G200 and RGB capture. You can't scale down to the capture size you want, it only crops the frames.

You see the idea I take back from this whole mess is this one: don't buy from Matrox now if you plan on using Win XP, because there is a good chance that your hardware will get little or no support from Matrox. You cannot expect from them to make the product/software drivers evolve to the next generation OS from Microsoft. One generation and that's it.

I was considering a Marvel G450 to replace my G200, but now I am pretty sure I won't buy one unless it's got drivers for Win XP delivered with it (in the box that is, and not "will be available very soon").

          Forgive me fberger,

But can I ask you a quick question?

You have a g200 WITH tv Tuner?

Do you get ANY video with the latest drivers under win2k?

You see, those of us on BX based motherboards WITHOUT tv tuner, aren't even getting any video input, bar big green boxes!

I would love to know the answers, and you would be helping to solve the problem for both Ghydda and I.

          TIA

I will just add that: My motherboard is not equiped with the Intel BX chipset. I got an Athlon running on the very first Athlon chipset, so the problem seems to be related to the Matrox G200 Marvel without the TV-tuner module only.

              Jason,
Yes, my Marvel G200 is one with a tuner (which I don't use). I get some video in, but can't capture reliably. I can't set the resolution to anything I want in VirtualDub. For instance I create and SVCDs and need a resolution of 576x480(PAL). Well, the capure app allows me to set the resolution, and the preview window works, but as soon as I start capturing, the frames change size and become just a cropped window of the original.
It's not exactly the same problem as yours, because you don't get any video.
I get this behaviour with the final drivers as well as leaked. I also tried PD 5.34 with VT 2.02, and get the same result. I need to try one more combination, which is the first W2k betas.

                Thanks fred,

As you stated, it isn't the same problem sadly.

                Which motherboard do you have?

                It's just that if

BX + marvel + tv tuner = SOME KIND OF VIDEO

BX + marvel = NO VIDEO

I'd love to be able to prove this is the current situtation, and if you have a BX based motherboard, it would help to prove it.

If your not sure what chipset the motherboard is, just give the make/model from the Power on boot up screen, when your system counts its memory. Just hit the Pause key on the keyboard if its to fast.

                TIA

                  Hardware config

                  Jason,

                  My config is as follows:
                  Abit KT7A-RAID motherboard (VIA chipset)
                  Athlon 1.33 Ghz CPU
                  512 MB Cas2 Crucial RAM
IBM 75GXP and 60GXP disks (30 and 60 Gb) on IDE1 (not RAID)
                  Marvel G200 TV AGP
                  DVD, ZIP, etc...

OS: Win2000 Pro (installed from CD with SP2 pre-applied)

Maybe that helps you pinpoint the problem to BX boards, but I am afraid not. Sorry!

                  Fred

Yeaaaaii, Matrox finally found the bug/misquito/spider which has all G200 Marvel no-TV-tuner owners up on the fences! And a patch is comming shortly.

Now it's gonna be interesting to see what the definition of shortly is this time.

Ghydda - goimg to bed now, big day tomorrow...

                      Ghydda,

Did I tell you I'd put up a fight, or what

Hopefully the fix won't take too long it doesn't sound like it will.

Brian, I apologies if I overreacted to your posts, caught me on a bad day. So I am sorry.

                      Night all, (here anyway)

FWIW, I've got a BX chipset mobo with Marvel G200 TV.

I get video just fine. I've finally just given up and set up my machine with Win98 as well to capture.
