Which leads me to ask another question.. Why is it that there is no 352x240 selectable for RAW avi mode? there is 352x288 and 320x240 but no 352x240.

Phire:
Actually, the Marvel is fully capable of capturing "Raw" at 352x240. Just change the registry settings for vidcap to the appropriate dimensions or use Virtualdub which allows you to set arbitrary capture dimensions. I've used this to allow MPEG capture in VS4 before. (though RGB->MPEG is pretty slow, and my dual 550 setup could only barely capture to NTSC VCD)

Well, I was using VirtualDub and it shows alot more resoultions than PC-VCR but in it's dialog it shows no 352x240, just the other two i mentioned which are close.. Is there some dialog where you enter the # on your own? or do you mean adding a filter to resize it in realtime?
Another question.. What exactly is YUY2? Is it similar to raw avi? And if it is then how is the quality compared to it?

Phire: Go to Set Custom Format in the Video menu.
YUY2 is the native format that the Marvel actually captures in. It's simular to RGB, except that it described colors as brightness and 2 other values to specify the color quality. It's the base for MPEG and MJPEG. The RGB captures are actually YUY2 converted to RGB. So.. this means the quality is just as good as "raw" (actually, in theory it's better since the conversion from YUY2->RGB is lossy due to round-off errors)

Sorry if anyone feels im pushing away the borders issue, But I want to learn more about YUY2 .
Ok, if YUY2 is the superior format how is it's size? and since YUY2 goes to RGB is it possible to set YUY2 to go into any codec you want?
Maybe setting YUY2->INDEO 5.11 would work good.. with quick compress on and a high-end computer it might be able to pull that off.
Another question.. Theoretically what would it take to capture in Indeo 5.11 in realtime with all quality set to high. Would it require a fast HD as well as a fast CPU?
ONE MORE question Can you set your card to take in any size resoultion of YUY2 or raw avi?.

If you're not whining, then what are you doing? You're not arguing; you haven't debated my points even once. You've instead asked me not to post to your contrary, since that clearly indicates that I'm an undercover agent for Matrox and a proponent of all bad business practices. Considering your apparent lack of reason or practicality, I won't take that seriously.
I still don't believe it matters. I realize, however, you have your own priorities and your own energy to spend dealing with Matrox on this issue. Were I in your shoes, I wouldn't be wasting my time. I don't condone poor products by any company, but to me, the Matrox cards are adequate and fit to their purpose.
This is the point I've been trying to make. You may go back and actually read my posts at any time. Perhaps even try to refute them. But don't cry "unfair" when someone argues against you; it's childish.

I've always suspected you were simply a Matrox shill, you seemed to have removed all doubt.
Go shout someone else down, I express my opinions, readily change them when given evidence to the contrary, and won't be silenced because you think I'm "whining"
