  • Marvel G400 vs. All-In-Wonder

gt2000 or anyone else who has experience with these two cards, how does the capture quality of All-In-Wonder compare with your Marvel G400? I think I have the hardware to use the All-In-Wonder well, but some people seem to think that the Marvel produces better results.

    Athlon 1GHz on a KT133 motherboard
    384 MB PC133 RAM
60 GB IBM 60GXP (Can upgrade to RAID if needed)

I'm mainly concerned with capture quality, but I haven't been able to find many comparisons based on first-hand use of these two cards. I would like to be able to capture video from my Tivo, edit it and burn it as SVCD or DVD.

    TIA for any information.

The Marvel G400 isn't made any more. The current product is the Marvel eTV, which works quite nicely.

Its PC-VCR program captures MPEG-2 and RGB (need a RAID for RGB though). Your system meets the minimum spec for full frame MPEG-2 capture.

It's YUY2 capture mode (availble from VirtualDUB, AVI_IO etc.) can be used with excellent results using the PICVideo MJPeg, HuffYUV or any number of softcodecs. This is now I typically use it.

Using MSPro or VideoStudio it can capture both MPEG-1 and MPEG-2 using their capture modules.

I gave up on ATI long ago because of their crappy (and infrequently updated) drivers.
