  • YUY2 patch (win2k) almost ready

I have got YUY2 working now on my G200, on videotools 2.0217. The codec does indeed contain YUY2 functionality.

The radiobutton "YUY2" is made hidden at runtime, so a permanent patch to the DLL would involve some disassembling (which would probably be illegal). I have therefore written a small external program that simply sends the message "show yourself" to this hidden radiobutton and voilĂ  ! It works.

This new YUY2 enabler probably works with most other versions of videotools as well, as long as it's the ENGLISH version.
At least the format setup dialog must have the title "Matrox VidCap - Video Format" for the program to recognize the window.

There's still some fine-tuning to be done but I shall upload the file shortly.
Resistance is futile - Microborg will assimilate you.

Wowwwww! I knew yuo could do that!!!

    Great Flying Dutchman!!!

I look forward to get this "YUY2 Enabler", and I'll test it also on other version of VT.

Now for a little request, FD, could you do the same for Italian version of VT??? OK, I know it looks weird, (A Dutch making an Italian version of something, I mean ), but it will be very useful for people not familiar with English language...

I don't mind, since I often use anyway the English version of about anything to keep myself trained with the language, but making the Italian version of your little/BIG program shouldn't be hard, as far as what only matters is the title of the window:

For the italian VT the title is: "Matrox VidCap - Formato video"

No quotes, of course, and I respected capitalization too...

    Good work, Flying Dutchman!!!

    Ciao!

OK Joe, send me a mail to "arthur.hoornweg AT wanadoo.nl" and I'll gladly send you a copy per e-mail so you can test it. It now handles both the Italian and English versions... I might as well implement the other languages as well.

      How to use it:

      - Start the program
      - Start Avi_Io (or whatever) and bring up the video format dialog.
      - Press the magic button....

      P.S.

Does anyone know the exact French, Spanish, German etc. titles of this dialog window?

Merci beaucoup!

        A bit OT...

FD's tagline; to boldly go where no one has gone before

        1. have you seen the promos for "Enterprise", the Star Trek prequal?

        2. did you see that NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center is going to do the first demo of antimatter thrust? They are to receive a batch of antiprotons sometime in 2002 using the HiPAT containment system.

        3. did you know that an ion engine has already flown and it worked?

        Just thought you'd be intereseted....

          Hi Flying Dutchman,

I'm French but for the moment i'm still with win98se and Vidtool 1.55.
I can try to install a french version of a new version of vidtool and help you. But which screen/title are you refering to, probably it could be the same with the vidtool 1.55 ?

I'm still using your actual patch for enabling the YUV.
          Thanks

            Hi Morane,

The panel may well be the same in VT 1.55 as in 2.X...

Flying Dutchman (God Bless Him! ), is referring to the VidCap panel which opens when, from third part capture applications (Like AVI_IO), you choose to set the "Video Format" or "video Parameters"...

it's the small panel with a column of radio buttons (RGB 8, RGB 16, RGB 24, then a blank row, and then, eventually, MJPEG; below those radio buttons, you have a square button for setting the parameters for the specific video format you've choosen.

Just supply the panel's window title...

            Cheers!

I just modified the program so that it simply searches for the text "Matrox VidCap". That seems to be the largest common denominator. Uploading now!

I mailed the program to the good doctor. I just hope the e-mail address I have of him still works. Why the heck aren't there any direct links in this forum? I've searched like mad.

I'm Going to test them tonight!

                  You have 2.02.017 installed, right?

I'm going to test the leaked & the official VT

                  Ciao!

                    Hi JoeDaring,

I can't really say that YUY2 mode is very stable on driver 2.00217 though...

                      Hi FD...

What problems are you experiencing with 2.02.017?

I tested your enabler on official release and modified official with VidCap from leaked release as per T-Rex's suggestion...

The enabler works fine, I can capture YUY2 in four resolutions, but as it has been reported from several users (also in G400 mode!), the very top 4-5 lines are disturbed with color stripes...

They can be, most of the times, cropped out in post processing.

Anyway, this is NOT a problem of your Enabler, of course, but some quirk of the application itself!

So, Forum, the Flying Dutchman's YUY2 patch seems to work with several releases of the VT... be advised, anyway, I did just some quick captures in YUY2 (Have to clean the mess on my Video HD!)...

                      Ciao everybody! Thanks again FD!

                        Hi Dr. Mordrid,
To join you in the OT discussion...

to boldly go where no one has gone before

Shouldn't it rather be to boldly go where no man has ever gone before, FD?

                        1. No, haven't seen any yet, as I live in Europe, and it will take some time for them to arrive. However, I am looking forward to Andromeda, which is supposed to be aired in September.

                        2. That's very interesting. Do you have any link where I could find more information about that? AFAIK there is very little antimatter produced... last info I have read about three years ago was nine antimatter atoms per year...

                        3. Yes... was it the Deep Space 1 probe? (AFAIRemember)

                          Jeezzzz...you guys are in a time warp!! Andromeda has been on the air here for about a year. Pretty good show. You can get an idea of what Enterprise is all about and view some promo's here;

There is a new antiproton production containment (beyond Marshall's HiPAT) being worked on by Synergistics that can store 10 to the 15th antiprotons, and they are working on atomic anti-hydrogen storage. Synergistics estimates a storage of 10 to the 17th atoms/cc. Production is now going on at CERN and Fermilab.

The antiproton producton rates are low now, running about 10 nanograms/year , but more high level production is coming online. Fermilab has a new injector going online and now commercial companies are researching it as well.

One method of antimatter propusion uses AIM (Antimatter Induced Microfusion). This would produce charged particles which would then be used to fuel a fusion reaction. The products of this reaction would then be the reaction mass. This provides more thrust/mass of antiprotons used than using the annihilation byproducts alone.

                          To compare it to other engines you use its "specific impulse" in seconds. Here is an interesting comparison;

                          Shuttle mains: 465 sec.
                          AIM: 67,000 sec.

AIM needs about 1-100 micrograms of antiprotons per mission.

                            Hi JoeDaring,

could you please show me your BIOS settings?

Using Powerdesk 5.39 YUY2 crashes on my machine after 139 frames using both videotools 2.0217 and the "release" version.

MJPG capture seems stable enough, as long as I close avi_io before playing back (else it crashes). It seems only one overlay window can be active at a time.

I still use Win2000 SR-2 with the original direct-X. Could it be that you use a newer version? My configuration:

                            Asus CUSL-2C board
                            256 mb SDRAM (3-2-2)
Celeron 700, soon to be replaced by a 900
                            Marvel G200
                            Accton Cheetah NIC
                            SB-64 PCI

Windows 2000 (ACPI mode) + SR-2 + IE 5.5 (installed in that sequence)
                            Powerdesk 5.39 (release)
                            Vidtools 2.4 (release)
                            avi_io 3.19

                              Hey,

Jeezzzz...you guys are in a time warp!! Andromeda has been on the air here for about a year.

Well yeah, if you guys wouldn't be so selfish and sell the series to us Europeans sooner we could dub it sooner and see it sooner.

I've read what they were saying about it shortly after I found out there would be a new show... thanks for the link, however, it seems that the promos aren't downloadable, and hence unusable to me (I don't have a soundcard here).

Concerening that anti-matter propulsion and transportation topic, could you point me to a link where I could learn from what all the jargon you are using means?

                              I'd be mainly interested in:

                              1. Antiproton production containment - what's that? A device to hold antiprotons? How does it work? Magnetic field? Does the magnetic field's polarity change for protons and antiprotons BTW?

                              2. Marshall's HiPAT - The best info I could find was at http://www.msfc.nasa.gov/STD/propuls...nti/index.html . However, it doesn't say very much about how it works. Or at least it doesn't explain it.

                              3. What is Synergistics?

                              4. Anti-hydrogen storage - how is that going to work? A magnetic field won't help very much I fear.

                              5. Production is now going on at CERN and Fermilab - of what? The containment device, antiprotons or antihydrogen atoms?

                              6. Fermilab has a new injector - what is an injector? A part of the particle accelerator?

Any chance you could give me a link concerning where I could read about it more, or could you explain it in detail, please?

                              8. Specific impulse - doesn't ring a bell... sorry.

Quantum physics should be more OK with me... haven't explored particle physics that much yet. Sorry that I might seem uneducated... however I am willing to learn.

                              Thanks
