As much as I've bitched about Matrox drivers, don't get me started on ATI.

Suffice it to say I won't be the first on my block to try anything from ATI at any price.

Don't buy it from a place that won't take it back without hassles.
Don't get caught waiting for driver updates that may never come.
    If it works, be happy.

Are you saying you have a working 8500DV?

Or that you are using an ATI card and are happy?

        What OS?

Other than bug-ridden installers that break more than a few systems, they basically work on win9x. On W2k they've orphaned far more cards than Matrox. It'll take a lot to get me to buy another capture card from ATI or Matrox, an "under $500" price tag doesn't hold any attraction to me. YMMV.

My Dell laptop has W2k and and ATI "mobility" chipset. Plenty of video driver bugs, although the latest driver from "windows update" helped, It still locks the system when changing desktop resolution unless if you click apply instead of OK, and it take two reboots to recover!

A Radeon64DDR-VIVO (if I had a working Radeon8500DV I wouldn't have the time to post....). And I'm only using Win2k. Plus I'm actually using the capture feature of the card in Win2k (even though I prefer the Hauppauge WinTV for this because of it's S-Video in and the integrated tuner).
No big problems here, especially not stability-wise, no real compatibility issues, either. Just the performance is sometimes lacking when compared to Win98. The only few real Win2k problems (or more annoyances) I had could all be attributed to the Creative Undead! Since I replaced this with a Terratek one I've not yet booted into Win98 again.... (not even installed the Win98drivers of the Terratek) .

ATIs drivers sometimes have their "issues" but nothing unresolvable. You just have to keep away from certain driver-versions (especially leaked ones) since in some of them the capture functionality is broken.

            no WIN98 support?

This new card is very exciting. DV and analog capture, plus TV stuff in the same package. WOW! ATI might just have a real "all in wonder," this time. I have sad concern though. I read the feature set on cjyo's link for this new ATI and it looks like WIN98 is not supported. Here's an excerpt:

            Operating system support
            Windows® Me
            Windows® XP
            Windows® 2000

I guess I should start to see that WIN98 really is fading quickly into the dust and think about upgrading.

Don't fret dChip. Win2k is very nice and stable. I fought it off for as long as I could, but I am sold. WinXp sounds like a real pain. I change HW more often then some people change underwear, and the thought of calling m$oft every week sounds like a headache I don't want. I just hope that Win2k has a decent life span.
