I use Windows XP RC2, An Matrox G400 MAX, with a Rainbow Runner G series. Everyting works good. Both TV and video capture.... I have not activated MJPEG suport yet.....
Hi Sergio, I also would like to know if someone managed to install matrox VTs in more recent XP's versions(2600), I didn't, setup was interrupted by the operating system, didn't allow the installation(G400 vanilla + RRG); I think I read somewhere, probably in this forum, that newer versions of XP wouldn't allow Matrox VTs, can someone confirm that? Right now I can capture perfectly with w2k but would like to try with this brand new OS; What about that feature that allows older drivers to install, how can that help? A bunch of questions...
Thks.

well. from what i read from here a while back. is that winxp isnt good for video captureing. it drops frames and the hardware isnt supported very well. Maybe the "FINAL" release has fixed this issue im not sure but from my understanding its like win2k pro. It drops frames like crazy and its not worth it. I will try it soon but till then im using win98se with SP1+2 and the latest drivers and vt's.
PS: i also read on newsgroups that winxp pro/win2k pro aren't good for video capturing at all. Maybe you should stick with win98se untill some sort of patch is released. It has somthing to dow itht he drivers + resources.
Omega: I have to say (and I think others on this forum will agree) that Win2k is better for capturing than 98(SE). I get better results with both my Marvel G400 and WinTV with Win2k than I ever could with 98.
I have to agree that I seem to be getting better captures with Win2k and my Marvel G400. That is MJPEG as well. I need to find time to play some more, but it is looking extremely stable right now with minimal droppped frames. I need to setup a good deck since I ma only capturing from the tuner for now. I still haven't gotten around to throwing everything back in my room yet.
I have always had a few drops with the tuner in the past, due to poor cable TV service. The signal is just a little dirtier than I would like. I am assuming that with a nice strong, clean signal it should work like a champ.

I can capture in Avi_IO using drivers ver 5.39 + vTools 2.04.015 (official x win 2000).
I can't get no others vtools working.
The big surprise is YUY2 quality, very good, much better then win 2000, both at Full and Cif PAL.
Huffy too work well.
Bad stuff in Adobe Premiere 6.01. Matrox yuy2 green frames at transition, but this not happen with Huffy.
I have also end Premiere task by Task Manager, it locks at the end of export movie.
Bad artifacts in left windows menu with these drivers.

Now i'm trying driver 5.52 (setup modified). These drivers seems to be more stable and doesn't affect XP new graphic style, but DH seems to be not working.
With drivers 5.39 sometimes you can experience casual reboot when try to launch an Mjpg file, the 5.52 at this moment seems to be not affected by this trouble.
To be continued....

Is not possible install any kind of vtools over drivers boundled in Win XP.
Simply you have first to install Matrox drivers, as i described in my previous post.
The good news is that you don't have to use the 5.52 power desk modified installer, but you can use drivers 5.39.
I was able to correct the artifacts in XP new GUI simply doing this: go to Display Properties\Settings\Advanced\Troubleshoot\ and move
Acceleration Hardware slider a tick left. In this way you don't have any quality loss in windows GUI and drivers are fully working.
Now you can install Official vtools (2.04.015).
After reboot you can watch TV in PCVCR and capture in third party software like Avi_IO (which i'm using).
You will notice a very good YUY2 quality.
At this point if you are satisfacted have nothing more to do, but if you want be able to use MJPG HW codec you payed for (REMEMBER MATROX), you have to make the tricks i described above.
Now i'm really satisfacted of my setup, quality is good both YUY2 and MJPG, DH is working too.
The only bug in this MJPG way is, as i described, the casuals reboot when trying to launch an MJPG avi file.
If you want use Premiere 6 in this MJPG setup, the best solution is Morgan codec.
However, i'm thinking to make a kind of "kit" with files and detailed explanation.
I have to thanks Flying Dutchman and T-Rex, their patchs and tricks opened my mind to go in this way.

It always amazes me how the same OS acts differently on different platforms.
I had no problem installing the G400 display driver with the Matrox installer. My problem is confined to the VT installer under XP, which I described in a previous post several weeks ago. No idea why the installer bombs. I even tried to install "manually", but the registry in XP is different from Win2k in some important aspects, so that did not work either.
I just thought I would contribute my success to the thread, in the hope that it might help someone!
I've got a Pentium II 350, with 640mb of ram, a Matrox Mystique G200 and a Rainbow Runner G-Series.
I'm currently running Windows XP build 2600 with pretty much flawless performance. I didn't have to screw about with it too much to get the video tools working. I just went ahead and installed PowerDesk 5.39 for Windows 2000, restarted, and then installed version 2.04 for the video tools (also for 2k).
There were a few glitches, but nothing major. They were related to the G200 drivers, as they only occurred prior to installing the video tools.
So far I haven't had any crashes, or other bad stuff
I haven't tried to capture, because quite frankly, I gave up on trying to do any serious capturing with this card long ago.
