All this is already old story, search for YUY2 on this forum and you will see that there even exist utilities to modify the Matrox capture program so that you can choose YUY2 in addition to RGB or MJPEG in the format dialog box.

but my tip enables YUY2 support on ANY PC, on which you typically cannot install video tools from Matrox.

This is not true: To start with, your tip only works under win95/98, not under winNT or win2k. Then, for your tip to work, the Matrox capture driver has to be installed. Which only happens when installing the video tools. If this driver (and some others like the MJPEG codec) is not installed, you cannot capture anything, not even in RGB or MJPEG, because you lack the interface between your program and the card.
And finally, YOUR tip has already been explained several times on this same forum and published on several sites. This being said, it is a good way of expanding the possibilities of the RR-G or Marvel cards and it is very intelligent to have found it even if someone else did it before you. However, be aware that not everything works 100% properly with this tip. For example, when capturing in YUY2 the 3 or 4 last lines of every picture are lost and replaced by a solid color (either black or deep green, depending on what you did before), or by static garbled pixels. Also, some picture resolutions will cause crashes. The reason why Matrox did not enable YUY2 capturing in their drivers is that they are still working on it and there are still some problems with what is already programmed (but normally not accessible to the end user) in the drivers.

Sorry, Grigory. I am just back (2 hours ago) in Brussels from a 1 week conference in Toronto and am still above the clouds. I did not understand your reply and thought you were talking about YUY2 capture, not YUY2 playback. And also I did not check on the date of the first message in this thread. Sorry to everyone else as well. Going to bed now might well be a good idea.
