  • Question in Video Capture & Convert with R.R.

    Hi, guys~

What are the steps required to make a DivX movie file out of a VHS movie tape?

    What I understand is:
#1. Capture the movie with PC-VCR Remote(included) in MJPEG.
#2. Open it and save it as MPEG1 with Ulead MediaStudio(included).
#3. Convert it into DivX with FlaskMPEG(free).

    My questions are:
#1. Is there any way to convert MJPEG to Divx, asf, or wmv directly?
#2. How large my HDD should be to capture/convert a two hour movie into a DivX movie file? 704*480@25fps + CD quality Sound
#3. How long did your computer take to do one of this job?

Thank you very very much. I was searching for answers over the net for days, and couldn't find one.

    PengDoRi,

To answer your questions (as best I can):

    1. Ulead should be able to allow you to save the file into DivX right away, without converting to MPEG.

    2. Depends on the Bit rate of the encoding usually for this it could range from 600MB to 1.3GB (estimated) for the final movie, for MJPEG capture about 15GB's (high quality capture)

    3. A long time (about 15 fps) so about 4hrs for a 2hr movie (Best case on my system)

Hope this has helped you (at least somewhat)

If you don't mind spending the time you could use virtualdub to go straight from mjpeg to divx and apply some filters to clean up the caputre.
