  • Msp6.5 + Wmp7.1?

    Hi,

    I just received my upgrade CDs for MSP6.5. The readme file mentions that WMP7.1 is recommended. Has anyone tried this with good results?

    So far, it looks the same as MSP6. I'm hoping something jumps out at me soon.

    FYI, make sure you delete any preview files from MSP6 projects. For some reason, I could not load any MPS6 projects until the files were purged.

    Thanks

    I've used 7.1 on a couple of my systems. After disabling almost all of the junk it works better than it did a few months ago, but I still like 6.4 better.

    Yes, 6.5 does look the same as 6.0. Most of the changes are under the skin and are found in the menus, dialogs and capture program.

    The New Features Guide is a must read, but doesn't list all the new features. A better guide to 95% of the changes is the free 6.5 supplement offered by Active Software for their 6.0 tutorial CD;

      Thanks

      I loaded up WMP7.1 and started to disable a few features. So far, it is a bit more stable. I'm still having some crashing problems on the instant playback and print to tape features. This might be caused from low memory on the machine I am testing it on (128MB - Win2K). I'll try bumping it up later.

      I'm starting to see some of the neater features at work. For those interested, most of the new features are not in the 'main' layer of the GUI. They are accessible through popup menus and such. I'm taking this as a good move.

      The feature I like the most, but thought it would look different, is the Storyboard. From using simple Storyboard type editors, like MGI VideoWave and Ulead VideoStudio, I thought it would be a different GUI (boxes containing clips separated by the desired transitions). Don't get me wrong, it's definitely a time saver. I just thought it would look different. I'm hoping it has an option to set transitions within the storyboard. That would truly save time. I miss that simplicity.

      I have to agree that the 'new feature' documentation is a bit thin. That's ok, because who really reads manuals.

        I installed MSP6.5 (on my test/junker system) and did not install WMP 7.1 So far I've not noticed anything not working. I did install Quicktime 5 it's still is nagware and installs Icons I don't want without asking. I won't be installing WMP 7.1 until I see proof that it does something I need that I can't do without it!

          On my mainline systems I kept 6.4 too, but 7.1 had to be tried for the beta. I just made sure it was on systems where it didn't matter

            Just an update, I added 256MB RAM on the same system. It is still choking on the instant preview, print to tape, and trying to open any projects made in MSP6 (about 50% of the time it works). WMP7.1 and QT5 did nothing to correct this situation.

            I'll keep plugging for a little bit longer. Unforunately, I'll have to go back to MSP6 if the situation persists.
