what are the absolute best settings in tmpgenc for final dubdown to vcd compatible mpeg1 for playback in standalone vcd compatible dvd players? my standalone is the raite avphile715. the source of the recording is foxsportsnet/bluetorch tv which is a show about surfing, skateboarding, motocross etc off of directv so the physical source is directv svideo using matrox mjpeg. so far, I have played with the settings and am currently using "MPEG-1 352x240 29.97fps CQ_VBR 50, Layer-2 44100Hz 224kbps" with the motion search precision set to "highest quality". the complete file size less the commercials is 704.9megabytes with a playtime of 43:27. I am trying to maximize the quality of aproximately 45mins (1 hour less the commercials) of action to fit onto a 700meg cdrom.
Dr Mordrid, it seems for simple editing, removing commercials, the built in editor of tmpgenc1.2a works just fine on this machine. I mean it doesnt hang or lock or anything like I read other people in previous versions delt with. anyway, just to let people know, the mediaware solutions programs-myflix3.0.5 and m1-edit pro 4.0-supports frame accurate variable bite rate edits. both ifilmedit and vcdcutter do not do frame accurate edits which is useless when you want to extract all the commercials not just most of the commercials.
I imagine there are no updated drivers for the tb santacruz soundcard yet? is this correct? I checked the site and it didnt seem like there where updates other than patches to fix special problems.
one other question, in tmpgenc, the advanced tab in settings there is an option for the source aspect ratio which says on this machine "4:3 535 line (NTSC, 704x480)". is this the correct setting if I am capturing at 352x240 mjpeg using the matrox software?
