  • PC-VCR Win2k sound problems

    Hi guys,

I was wondering I have a problem with My PC-VCR ever since I installed win2k on my system. I have soundbalster live mp3 installed as well. Now this is my problem I can capture video but now audio. Sometimes I can capture audio but it's usually after I format everything and start from scratch. And then for no aparent reason it will just stop capturing audio. I have no idea why. I have played around so many times before it drives me crazy. Now I just re-formated my computer again to see if it will fix the problem but nope it still will not capture audio!!!!!!! I can hear the audio from tv etc line in and s-video. SO everything works. Can anyone help me out with this? Is this a problem with soundblaster drivers or what?

    Thanks

i had those problems at the start, it was that i hadnt plugged the cable to line in and i hadn't selected 'line in' in recording properties, or line in was muted in audio properties.

if you can hear the audio then it's likely to be something like that.

Open up the mixer control by double clicking on the speaker in the systray. Then Options> Properties. <make sure that the rght mixer device (SC) is selected, then select "Adjust volume for" and select recording and hit ok. Select the "Stereo MIxer" pot and adjust the level accordingly.

This is a common mistake, most SC's revert to microphone input on a fresh install. Just because you can hear it does not mean that it is selected to record. If yo think about it for a minute it makes sense. You can have a bunch of inputs gong into your SC and it will pass them throgh, kind of like an E-E mode for a VTR; mic, line input, CD, modem, and even some other stuff. Now when you are doing an audio recording, do you want to have all of that other stuff being captured? Not in most cases. Granted you won't be doing a capture while listening to a music CD, but what about those little sounds that windows makes, i.e. notification dings and stuff?

What I would like to know is how to make a "switch" into the shortcut to select the record input when I open an app like MSN Messanger and AVI_IO. Me and the wife have problems, because I leave the mic off after a capture and she is computer illiteraate. Instead of paying attention on how to fix it, she would rather just give me a hard time.
