  • Reasons to upgrade from my trusty Marvel?

Well, looking at the calendar on the wall I see the month is almost up and I haven't asked any stupid questions (That I know of) yet. So here goes:

IF one has a working Marvel G400 that is functioning just fine in W2K and IF one does not care about timeshifting, or any of the other non-video capture features of the G450eTV, and (finally) IF one can capture in Mpeg2 using the Ulead DVD Plugin or MSPro 6.5 capture utility, what would be a good reason to layout the money for a G450 eTV?

    I await any replies,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

I've been asking myself the same question. I am running Win2k now as well and I just did some test captures with avi_io. About 25 minutes with the tuner and a few drops (5) but my cable signal is crap anyway. I think that I am going to hook up a signal generator and pump in a nice strong clean signal and check to see what codec has the best resolution. I am kind of curious to see how PicVideo and the the HW MJPEG compare.

I also want to verify that it is just a poor signal causing the drops. I just dumped a few bucks on this 1.4G T-bird, case, Ram, FT100, etc... I want to see what it will do. The strange thing is that no matter how bad the signal is (within reason) I drop 0 frames when capturing uncompressed video. It seems like the Matrox maybe trying to do something. I have no idea what the heck it would be doing during a capturing besides compressing my signal, but it may be the culprit.

I just love that good old fashioned HW compression.
