    Hi,

I have a video file .WMV which is in fact an ASF type file. I cannot open this file with Premiere because the format is not recognize.

If I try VirtualDub 1.4c-ASF, when i Want to open the file, I have the error "ASF: parse error-- too many segments in packet at 2f1 (4 expected) packet size=f71, send time: 0:00

I tried different version of TMPGEnc and they are not able to convert the file correctly (sound is missing or soft crash in the middle of the conversion).

If I open the file with PowerDVD 3.0 (working well on my Marvel G400) I can watch the video perfectly, but I'm not able to capture it in the same time as an other format type file.

Does somebody know any kind of program which is able to do some real time capture from a player ?

What is this error from VirtualDub ?

How to convert this kind of ASF file ?

The file is not long, only 5 to 6 min.

    Thanks

Thanx to the M$ lawyers these files are nearly impossible to convert. The only way that I have done it (and it's not perfect but watchable) is to rename the file extension to AVI then load it in TMPGE 12 or 12a (I have not tried this with 12j but the version 12b to 12h were not too good at this) . Set the perameters that you want ie MPEG1 or 2 and frame size etc . Then go to File >save as> MPEG (or what ever) and let TMPGE do it's thing. The result is not great and there may be a few clitchs in the audio but it was the only way I could convert the last 2 episodes of Star Trek Voyager to VCD to play back on a DVD player.

    Good luck..

        Thanks for all,

I tried the little prog but it does not work for my file, I look in the FAQ and it 's written that it's because the file is a "live" video.

If you can watch the thing perfectly ..... set your G400 to TVout and wack a video recorder on the output to TV .... record it then recapture from the recording

          Regards

You could convert the *.wmv file to MPEG-1 using TMPGEnc.

You could then either use it as an MPEG or convert it back to an *.AVI using FlaskMPEG.
