  • Pinnacle Quoted: SoundBlaster Live

Pinnacle's findings as quoted on the ALive! Web page below may be of use to people having problems with SoundBlaster Live cards:

"According to Pinnacles observations, Liveware seems to permanently transfer null-bytes over the PCI bus to the SB Live, even at times when it does not have to play notes. In the worst case, this destroys up to 30 % of a system's PCI bandwidth (that's why we noticed it on video-capturing ...). Deactivating SB Live's MIDI functions stops this behavior."

Of course, once you disable midi, the entire SOUNDBLASTER LIVE card is also disabled.

    So Pinnacle's "fix" isn't one.

I can't wait to swap the one in my work system out for a Turtle Beach Santa Cruz.

Again, when I attempt to use Pinnacle's solution - the ENTIRE soundcard is disabled... not just MIDI.

Jerrold, you can always uninstall Live ware, which seems to fix many problems for those running Rt2000's as well.

I'm happily running both the Turtle Beach Santa Cruz on one machine and a Montego II Digital on another.

          Cheers,
          Elie

That's because you're using Win2k - no, let me rephrase this: that's because Creative can't write Win2k drivers....

Under Win98 the fix mentioned above does indeed work. In Win2k, however, disabling the Midi (or any other function) will disable the whole card. Yes, the creative drivers are that bad. Best thing is to use the ones that came with Win2k they have the least bugs!
