  • More Newbie Help.

Ok, I thought I was doing everything right.

    I have a G450etv.
    Capping with PCVCR
    Editing with Premier 6

I record something with my Video Camera....
Plug it into my G450's inputs...
play it back so my machine can record it.

Now it says it wont let me cap it because it has found
    some kind of copyright protection?

What kind of bullshit is that?
I made that damn video myself ... WTF !!!
What the hell are we doing in the middle of the desert?

Welcome to the wonderful world of Macrovision. This is forced into many capture cards by the entertainment industry, much to the shagrin of those it hammers without justification.

The problem is that some relatively normal variances in signal quality from analog sources (weakened signal strength, botched synch pulses etc.) can trigger the Macrovision copy protection mechanism in the capture drivers. This can also happen if you play the cam using its internal batteries instead of the power pack.

I don't usually run into this because I feed my signal through a video processor before it hits the card, but that's not practical for a lot of folks.

Sometimes just amplifying the signal helps. Passing the signal through some VCR's input and output ports can accomplish this (JVC usually).

You could also check and see if a patch has been posted for the eTV drivers that disables Macrovision, though I doubt it.

I searched for a Macrovision patch, I looked forever to no avail.

Reguardless, your reply is interesting, however it isnt
      very promising.

      Are you saying I'm F*cked?

I had my Camera with the AC on, I don't own a VCR.
It has S-Video Output, do you think that's worth a try?

This is really .. really really stupid.
