Media Player 7 BLOWS!

End of story this crap!

Takes tens of seconds to start a DV avi file,
same icon for AVI and MPEG,
plays DV AVI at small size not 720x480,
full of junk I don't want,
crashes if you try to start two instances.

Didn't fix any of the >2GB or >4GB MPEG2 file playing problems.

Add insult to injury MSP6.5 installs version 7.00.00.1954.

My opinnion of Ulead is sinking fast!

And you'll like be hosed but good if you forget to uncheck the "Adaptec CD-burning Plug-in" depending on what CD burner software you already have.

And the update to 7.01.00.3055 didn't help!

There is an un-install option in control panel add/remove programs, hope it works!

PS thank god the w2k un-install worked and restored media player 6.4.09.1117 so once again I can double click an DV *.avi file and have it nearly instantly start playing in 720x480 glory. I guess the "un-installable" stories I'd heard are for win9x.

I have WMP 7.00.??.??? installed for compatibility
Remember when nothing work after un-installing IE4.0/5.0
Here's how to use WMP 6.4 and still have WMP 7 on the computer

Load WMP 7 a find the options/formats
un-check all boxes for file associations
goto "C:\Program Files\Windows Media Player\"
Load WMP 6.4 (mplayer2.exe) a find the options/formats
I've only seen WMP7 once since (it stole the associations back)

If this doesn't work for you , You may have a file in the startup folder that's
switching back to WMP7
If so goto start/run/ and type msconfig then goto to the startup tab

Guess you missed my PS, the W2k uninstall worked and put back Media Player 6.4 Double clicking media files once again work as they should without intermable delays.

You noticed this THAT early???

But WMP 7 doesn't uninstall WMP6, it's still on your HD and working.
So all you have to do is once open the Multimedia filetype settings and set the WMP6 executable as default action and you'll be fine. double-clicking will start WMP6, but you can still use WMP7 as well for files that won't play without it.

It was easier to simply uninstall it! It was a pleasant surprise to learn that it hadn't removed/overwritten media player 6.4, guess I got spooked by rumors that MP7 was "uninstallable", or was that only for win9x? I can live without looking or listening to anything that requires Media Player 7 for the forseeable future.

I'm still miffed about the WME7 installed without option by MSP6.5 update breaking Netshow tools. Not that I'm in love with netshow, but now all the time I spent finding the "best" comprise template for making *.asf for Email seems wasted as my first pass at *.wmv was pretty poor compared to what I would have expected from *.asf, although it was quite a bit smaller in size.
