  • new soundcard, help with suggestions please

i want to replace my soundblaster cos i dont like it in win2k.

i was looking at scan.co.uk's today only page and it has a videologic sonicfury souncard there. is it any good? and are there any problems with that and windows 2000 and also would it be better for general stuff than my 1024 live?

also does it have any problems with the g400-tv?

I would recommend what Dr_Mordrid recommended I get to resolve the pops and cracks issue I had with a matrox marvel g400 tv in combination with the sblive retail. that soundcard is the turtle beach santa cruz. its a great sound board really. there are just a few minor bugs which a software update will fix I am sure. all and all, since the addition of that soundcard, I have no cracks and pops issues in my captures.

on a different note, if you are using hardware mjpeg with linux, the recommeneded sound card is the sblive since it has got a gob of support on that platform. unfortunately, at this time, the same cannot be said about the turtle beach santa cruz other than basic drivers to get basic sound.

apparently, its creative "scabs" poopy api that causes all this in the windows environment. this is not the case with linux. fundamentally, this is a problem because computers are a creation of man and man is not perfect and so neither are the creations of man, in this case, computers! hehe.

    sysconfig:
os: win98se (win2k or linux possibly)

    videocard: matrox marvel g400 tv
scsi controller: symbios wide scsi pci (40meg/sec)
hard drives: system disk-ibm 10k 9.1gig sca to widescsi, capture drive-hitachi 18.2gig sca to widescsi
cdr: 2 or 4 plexwriter 4/12 drives (depends on what I am doing)
    soundcard: turtlebeach santacruz
    modem: dsi3536 pci modem
    monitor: ibm p70 17inch crt

Turtle Beach Santa Cruz and Sonicfury are the same card.
It is distributed in Europe under the Sonicfury name.

      quote from their web site
SonicFury is the product name used for the Turtle Beach Santa Cruz when distributed by VideoLogic Systems in Europe and other parts of the world.
