    Rick,

    you said:

I do not agree. You capture somehow. As me, you do not know
what exactly is captured in terms of field or frame based or what
field/frame is in what order. You also do not know, e.g. whether
you captured ABABABA... but B is first (and you have half a field
with a missing b at the start).

So again, do not give up. I once had the same feeling than you
and in the end I got the desired result. Especially for you I did
a test with HuffYUV and AVI_IO. Read into MSP6.0. Selected field
order B for each clip. Exported with built-in DVD plug-in to SVCD
compliant CBR and VBR. Exported PicVIDEO field order a and
encoded with CCE SP "upper field first" selcted. Burnt with
    nero.

All well, CCE SP the best.
    Best Regards,
    Karlson.

Granted, I capture NTSC, but I use AVI_IO and Huffy then convert to SVCD with TMPG. It works fine and plays perfectly on my DVD player. Any chance you could post a tiny source file (in huffy .avi) for us to play with? Unless it's something specific about your source, I think we can fix the problem.

        Hi Joe and Karlson,

Here's what I've figured out over the past couple of days of playing with this: The problem is definitely in the captured .avi files. Whether I use HuffYUV or PIC MJPEG codec, the .avi files come out the same way with the scrambled fields. The same problem happens whether I use AVI_IO or Virtual Dub to capture.

However, if I reboot under W98 instead of W2K and do the same capture, the video looks fine. So the problem is related to something in W2K.

I am using NTSC, by the way.

All the .avi files I have are too huge to post anywhere, but I guess I could create a short clip of some kind if you think it would help. I can tell you for sure though that my problem is happening during capturing, because I can do the exact some capture under W98 and the resulting video looks fine.

Are any of you guys using W2K to capture?

          Rick,

I use W2k-SP2. I capture directly to NTFS with AVI_IO.
But I use PAL. Don't think it realy makes a difference.
It makes me wonder a bit, that it's different with
          98 though...

If you prepare a small clip, I could look at it. Thanks
          to ADSL :-)).
          Best Regards,
          Karlson.

            Hi Karlson,

I tried creating a file of a little over 5 seconds of video to demonstrate the problem, but it is still 39 MB. I have cable modem here which is usually pretty fast, but 39 MB is still going to take some time to transfer.

If you are interested, I can set up an FTP server here and you could FTP it.

Well, here's a little update for anyone who cares. I captured some video from my Hi-8 camcorder using AVI_IO and HuffYUV codec under W2K. I still had to use the "Swap fields on decompress (for people with broken capture drivers)" setting, but this time it seems like the jittery effect during horizontal movement/panning is not so bad.

Has anyone ever tried capturing a video that was recorded on S-VHS tape from digital satellite dish receiver? The video that gave me so much trouble was recorded from the dish to S-VHS and then captured on the computer. I'm just wondering if that had anything to do with it...
