  • Problems with RealPlayer on Win 2k and Win Xp

When I try to watch realmedia clips on win 2k and win XP using DVDMax i get distorted balck and white picture on TV. This only happens in XP and 2k in win 98 SE everything works fine. Dvix and quick time also work fine in 2k and XP, only real player is causing problems.
Im using latest drivers from matrox webpage.
My configuration is Celeron 566@876, ABit BH6, 256 Mb RAM, Matrox G450 16 Mb DH.

I can only speak for W2K but some versions of the G450 drivers broke *.rm playback on DVDmax. Since I think even less of *.rm than I do of *.wmv, its never bothered me, but I seem to recall at least one of the previous driver versions working correctly with *.rm and DVDmax on W2K.

Real media clips work fine with 552 driver under win 2k, but problem with win XP still remains. Thing is, 552 driver and win XP don't work very well together. When I installed 552 driver on XP and finally managed to configurate dual head, I solved problems with realplayer but dvix films started to act wierd. When I try to play dvix film (I tried using media player and micro dvd) they are upside down, both on monitor and on TV! I guess I'll have to wait for next revision of matrox drivers to solve all my problems.
      Thanks for help.

Have you tried the W2K 5.71 "certified" drivers yet? I thought the readme said for XP as well. Drivers are supposed to eventually "unify" between W2K & XP, -- one driver for both, we'll see.

These seem to have fixed the DVDmax incompatible "Advanced Settings" for good MPEG1 playback and DV playback -- which is a good thing as its many more mouse clicks to switch them.

Downside is "Always scale to full screen" doesn't seem to do anything hence winDVD2.3 no longer displays correctly out the DVDmax. PowerDVD 2.55 seems to work OK, the bundled DVD player has been a DVD playback system breaker for me.

Yes I tryed W2k 5.71 certified drivers, RealPlayer + DVDMax don't work with them. In fact they were source of all my problems, because all older revisions of matrox drivers work fine with .rm files. I hope matrox will repair this in next revision.
