  • Off topic: How late do people stay up doing video editing?

I have a massive fatigue headache from doing a 4 am video edit 2 nights in a row
I had to stop when I began seeing 2 computer monitors, even though my G400TV had dual head mode disabled!!

Whats the longest time any of you have stayed awake doing this obsessive "hobby" of ours? I wonder if it is doing our health any good. It would be interesting to see if in 10 years any of us still have our eyesight, and/or bad backs from bad posture.

I've worked for a week on projects with only about 2-3 hrs. sleep a night.

No, it's not good for you.

Everyone knows that old farts can't sleep all night anyhow

Getting old is what's not good for you. Been there, done that.

Old fart? Maybe, but at 52 I'm young by my families standard.

One of my grandfathers died at 104 while mowing the lawn.

Other than the obvious problem that brought about he also had a hot date that night & thought he'd get lucky :=P

My grandmothers both sides lived into their mid '90's.

Man, I saw this thread and couldn't resist

Sleep? what is that?? When I'm pressed to complete a project, it's only 2-3 hours of sleep and I'm only 34

Once, I had a last minute photo montage to complete, I stayed up 24 hours for the dude to finish it, I came home at 6:00pm, scaned 54 pictures, modified and repaired them indavidually, imported into After effects to create the movements, exported to AVI, imported them all into Premiere's Story board (thank god it has one), added a few tunes and exported to tape.
Phew, try to say that in one breath!
The next day, I had to leave early to get some sleep, didn't realize how pressious it can be until you're deprived of it.

Cheers all, and try to get some sleep ok!!!

As a Very Old, Long, Smelly and Noisy Fart, I no longer have the stamina of you youngsters of 54 or less. I find best productivity comes from 3-4 hours a time, twice a day, with at least 2 hours away from the computer in between. I'm lucky, in that I have a window with a beautiful view down a deep valley. Every 15 minutes or so, I remove my eyes from the screen and spend half a minute with the eyes focussed at infinity and the iris diaphragm stopped down in the bright sunlight (at least, for c. 340 days/year), with a twiddle of the metal-slat Venetian blind.

Over this ration, my productivity definitely deteriorates and, if I attempt a third slot, by the end I am beginning to make stupid mistakes, even though I try to think out every mouse click, before doing so (often taking several seconds to decide that I need to press S to cut a clip!).

Lucky you Brian, the only view I get is my fat lady neighbor cutting grass every now and then, or sun tanning, oy! what a sight

When I first started I would stsay up all night, go to work, then come back and pull another all nigter, go to work again. i would then proceed to pass out as soon as I got home and sleep from about 5:30 PM till 7:00 AM to go to work again. This happened on more than a few occasions. I finally figured out that about 11:00 PM is about a good time to call it quits unless it is the weekend. I realized that my computer wasn't going anywhere and after too much sleep deprivation, I wasn't very productive here or at work. Thank God I don't depend on my PC for my livelihood.

Now when it comes to my livelihood, I just got back from a 3 month trip of 18hr days, 6 days a week, sometimes 7 in 4 different countries. That one was just a matter of really poor planning on someone else's part. We did succeed but after awhile you end up just creating more work for yourself with mistakes. Of course after I was finished and returned home, the old 9 hour days felt like about 3 hours!

As a really young radio amateur I was in the air late night and early morning, 2-3 hours of sleep and then daytime work.
The audio diagram on my left ear is 55 dB down.
When I started this hobby, the computer video, in my younger age (at 59-60) I went to bed with about 12:00 pm or 01:00 am.
Now I am 65, the local time now is about 01:15 am. Just finished a short video experiment and now writing this and I’ll continue to……
My dog left me at 10:00 pm and went to sleep. She must be up and in hurry out at 7:00 am with me on the other end of the leash.
...day after day, night after night...
My L. ear is "gone". How about my eyes?

Well I'll stay up till 5 working on programming/video stuff for fun, but I'll still get 9-10 hours of sleep (do that on weekends) . During the summer when my summer job wasn't the normal student's summer job, I could to that too since my work hours were whenever I wanted them to be.
