  • HP exiting CDRW market

Our experts highlight the events shaping tomorrow.

"Although it is No. 1 in sales of add-on CD-rewritable drives, Hewlett-Packard is exiting that market so it can better concentrate on the emerging, and potentially more profitable, demand for recordable DVD drives."

How stupid! One doesn't throw away the oar before a test run of a new outboard motor.

Over here, the market is flooded with $40-$70 CD-RW packages.
As far as I can tell, none of these are HP OEM, some Sony's are at the high end of this range after rebate. HP's number 1 ranking is not likely to be there next year.

I think its smart to quit while you're ahead and move on to something with a hopefully better future.

If HP's DVD burner actually makes disks that play without glitches in the players that are on the store shelves now, I'll buy some more HP stock!
