MPEG capture in MSP 6 non interlaced?

I just started playing around with this since I have some more horsepower. I can get some really nice looking captures with it and the "allow modify" trick in the ini file, but if I use field based scaling, it looks terrible. Disabled it looks good, but that usually means that it is non interlaced.

Is there a way to verify or change this?

Are there any other capture programs that will allow MPEG capture using a VFW capture (for the Marvel) out there? Maybe with a different encoding engine.
