  • Sound out of sync....

    I get very funny results when I try to make SVCD's....

    After encoding the Mpeg files are fine on the computer, but when I have burned them onto cd and tries them in my standalone dvd I get audio synch errors.
    Is there a bug in Nero 5.0.3.8.???

    I am on the werge of giving up.

    Blocky picture quality is one thing, super bad audiosynch is inerving...

    Thought it was Virtualdub at first, but I have uppdated to last version where tath particular bug claims to be squashed.

    But it happens even is I am not using Vd at all!

    I thought Nero 5.5 was required to make SVCD, or was that a typo?

    I had problems with Nero 5.5.38 that seem to have been fixed with 5.5.40, but I don't think I made a VCD or SVCD with 5.5.38 my problems were with multisession disks.

      With Nero 5.5 you don't need a stand alone Mpeg2 encoder....

      Actualy I think I know why....

      but I am not shure....

          @Technoid

          I know you already said case closed. I want to bring your attention though to a much better and FREE/ GRATUIT / GRATIS program called TSCV + VCDImager.

          In this forum, and others, I very often read about sync problems, block problems, no play problems, no FF / FR problems. These problems most of them with Nero, but also a lot with WinOnCD.

          I've had a few of these problems also, especially when I started about 6 to 7 weeks ago with SVCD. Nothing seemed to work. By chance I stumbled upon TSCV + VCDImager and live was wonderfull again. Everything started to work. This combination of programs makes IEC-62107 compatible SVCD's by default. Using a simple switch you can refert back to the pre IEC Chinese SVCD standard. This is what most have when they purchased some unknown brand like Yamakawa, Apex, Raite, Divido or other.

          It supports EVERYTHING. To give you a little summary.

          Intro / Extro files
          VCD / SVCD
          Still / MOTION menus
          MAKE the motion menus
          Burn CD's using CDR-DAO

          Read all about it on http://www.ttool.de

          Apart from that, if you take a little time to read about the underlying XML language, you can even improve on the already very nicely authored CD's. And I can assure you, this language is EASY. Heck, even I'm able to understand it. The SVCD's I now make do exactly WHAT I WANT them to do, and not what Nero or any other programs thinks they need to do.

          Try it. I'm sure after using it a few times, and becoming familiar with some of the peculiarities of the programs, you'll throw Nero, WinOnCD, I-Author and any other program there might be out of the window.

          The blocky problems. My guess is the MPEG2 encoder your using. Additionally, you gotta remember, crap in is crap out. I use TMPGEnc 1.2j in combination with 704*576 MJPEG files from the Matrox Marvel G400. The results look great.

          Regards, Leon

          PS: If you got he impression that I'm very pleased with TSCV + VCDImager. You're right. To me it's the best there is and an additionaly advantage is, ITS FREE.

            Thanx for the tip droopy;

            I do actualy use TMPG to encode the files....

            some blockiness is unavoidable when trying to squees in 60 min of SVCD onto 1 cd...

                Downloading the TSCV + VCDImager and reading the help files I've discovered another program: the "Sub Station Alpha" (4.08) a nice subtitling progie.
                Some difficult to learn, but it allowes to make long subtitles in combination with Virtual Dub.
                The only BIG issue of this program is that I couldn't set the framerate other than 30 fps. Maybe I made something wrong.
                Tried a short subtitle with MSP6 open + SSA 4.08. It worked nice except the timing.
                Anybody tried this program?

                        @Technoid

                        Well, I see you've found it. I had the problem of not being able to download a couple of times too. I guess the FTP server was probably too busy. On one occassion it was my own fault. The firewall I use blocked a little too much. It allowed me to see the files, but did not allow me to download.

                        Anyway. Maybe you've found this one already. It's a description of the underlying XML language used for the authoring part. There is a manual with VCDImager, but the XML description looks very complicated and was hard, at least for me, to understand. This URL though describes it easy and very clearly.

                        At the moment, I use TSCV to make a basic XML file, and then use my knowledge of XML to get it the way I want it.

                        If you don't care about menus and just want (S)VCD's with chapter point to jump to. There is another even easier GUI. It's called VCDImagerMadeEasy. You can download it from the VCDHELP site.
