  • Any way to get digital in on Santa Cruz?

I'm going to get a new sound card because I need digital in. I learning toward the Philips Acoustic edge. Is there a way to get digital in on the Santa Cruz. I'd be coming RCA out of my DAT recorder.

    Thanks,

You could use the versa jack since it accepts a variety of in\out configurations. The only problem is you would be stuck with only having digital in. Of course you could always unplug the digital in and reconfigure the control panel. I suppose you would like something more permanent?

I do have my trusty, old, faithful, (sniff-sniff) SB64 Awe Gold in one of my office computers that still has the S/PDIF connector that ends in a RCA connector. Since it is safe to assume I won't be hooking up anything digital to my office machine I might try plugging the cable into the CD SPDIF IN header on my Santa Cruz. This would solve my headphone dilema since I would like something a little more permanent than what I am using now.

If it works I will try to ID which pin is center, and which one is for the outer casing. Should be simple enough to determine.

I will let you know how it goes,

      Bummer of Bummer's!

Well, the cable idea was going along fine. I did have some issues with the plug on the cable not fitting into the Santa Cruz header, but a little adapting solved that problem.

Unfortunately, my Pioneer receiver does not have any coaxial digital outs. Just optical on the output side.

      Ah well,

Thanks for the reply. Right now my main computer has a Live! in it with the digital i/o daughtercard. I'm going to be moving to XP and have heard there are some issue with Live!

Looks like I'll either get the Santa Cruz or Acoustic Edge.

I'm sure you will do well with either one. For myself I have found the Santa Cruz is just so good I can't imagine anything outdoing it dollar for dollar. Or 1 dollar for 2, or better. It's that good.

If you want to dig up some audiophile advice head over to hear (purposely spelled wrong, har-har):
