  • Matrox G400TV

Hi, I'm running an Athlon T-Bird 1ghz, 512mb ram etc, Matrox g400TV under Windows 2000, using the BETA drivers and vidtools. The system isn't unstable but it's not stable either, due to various things, the matrox drivers being one of them. The reason I'm still using the BETA drivers is for the MJPEG support, if I get a positive response to the FINAL drivers and the MJPEG hack I'll do that.

The main reason for this post is, do the Windows 2000 drivers work ok under Windows XP, and can I cap using the Matrox Vid Tools or a.n.other cap program. I want to cap using MJPEG as well. I also want a fast and stable system

Any links etc, with reference to drivers I can use would be appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Nick

Sorry to tell you, but none of the software that came with my G400TV works with XP on my system. Video Tools will not load, the drivers cause immediate crashes, and even the DVD player will not work. Too bad because XP is great for editing. I've really enjoyed making 4+gb files! I've been using my firewire, so the video capture is no loss, but I'm dissapointed that I cannot use any of the features of my card and only minimal display capabilities. I was even more dissapointed when matrox announced no planned drivers or support for XP with the G400TV card. Especially since it's less than 2 years old.

If anyone comes across drivers I'd appreciate knowing about them too. Looks like I'll have to get rid of my card and get a different one though.

By the way XP has been incredibly stable for me. I ran the beta for several months and have only needed to reboot about once per week (I almost never turn my system off)

      i have video tools working

in windowsxp and I can capture yuy2 with huffy just fine.. Installed XP last night and got it running.. At first I was getting all kinds of errors and blue screens when I tried to load av_io or pcvcr. Then I remembered that I hadnt updated my bios or via 4in1 drivers(using an kt133a motherboard here) in months so I did and av_io loaded, pcvcr blue screened when I tried but I think if I set it to windows 2000 compatibility mode it just might work..

Now my only problem is I cant play back video for some reason, like mpegs and other video files. Whenever I try to play them back I get a blue screen about g400d.dll so im gonna tinker with this a bit more because im sure that can fix(hopefully).

        here with another update

My card was set to agp 4x mode so that could be one of the reasons why it would blue screen when I try to play video.. I installed the latest matrox g400(hacked ini) XP drivers and changed my agp mode to 2x and it works fine now, playback of video, capture and all.

            JOe,

On the Matrox website there is a link for the fix to the 4xAGP fix. It is just a matter of copying the new G400d.dll and a G400d.sys into another folder. I guess that it works.

            Here is the link

I didnt know about that agp problem in win2k.. I was running display drivers 5.39 and final video tools for a few weeks without any problems in win2k before I finally upgraded to winxp... Ill get that anyway just in case I might need it.. Right now im running display drivers for XP 5.72 and final video tools 2.04 and its working great.

                  i have no idea why

some people are getting that error but winxp installed video tools smoothly for me.. It asked me if I was sure I wanted to install it because it wasnt tested or something and I said yes and it went through without a problem.. Im using winxp pro.
