Record computer image to videofile?

Hi, I have a friend that wants to record his computer image to a video file without first recording it to a VCR and then record it back thru the video-in. He wants the computer screen display directly recorded to some sort of AVI or other file format.
What program is needed for that and how is it done? Thanks

I was just reorganising my "favourites" list yesterday and looked up an entry I didn't recognise. It seems to do exactly what you want, but I can't vouch for the software since I haven't tried it. I think Doc M has tho. Terry ?
