  • Avi_io problem under WinXP

I have a Matrox G400 Marvel and have just installed Windows XP. However, I can not find the TV channels in AVI_IO. I have no problem with watching TV in Matrox PC-VCR. Does anyone know what I can do ?

    I'd write Markus Zingg (the developer) with that question. Here's his addy;

      Hi Dr. Morbid,
Thanks for your quick response . I will try to contact him. I did not know if he was still active since he has not updated his program or homepage in a while.

        Re: Avi_io problem under WinXP

It isn't a problem with XP. AVI_IO can't tune the channels with my G450 E-TV in Win 98, either. I forget his exact explanation and the email is at home, but it as to do with the chipset it uses. If you don't get a response from him, I'll post the exact explanation from home.

          Hi Michelle,
this is the answer I received from Markus:

"The Matrox boards use a non standard way to achive tuning. I'm
currently in the process of contacting Matrox to see if they are
willing to disclose information which enables me to add tuning for
          Matrox boards."

I really hope that Matrox can provide Markus with the information he needs. It is the least they can do after not supporting the G400 Marvel card. I think I could tune channels in win98 with AVI_IO, but I used different drivers then.

I would really appreciate if someone from Matrox could comment this.

          Best regards
          Jojje

You can change the channel using the source menu. Inconvenient, but it works.

This is how I do it now. The main problem is unattended capturing. If I need to cap from more than one channel, I need to tune through my VCR and let it change the channels for me by using timer record.

I very much hope Matrox makes it possible to tune through AVI_IO's timer menu.

                Hi,
Dr Morbid, I am not sure that I understanded you correctly, but my problem is that when I choose source I get a dialog with header "Matrox Vidcap - Video Source". In that dialog I choose TV tuner and PAL ( I live in Sweden). Then I can choose between channels 1-55. However, none of my TV channels reside on those positions.

                Best regards

I wrote a simple kixtart script that changes channels, captures from a start date to end date to a specific filename using AVI_IO. it handles multiple events (sequentially only) and can turn off your PC (its targeted for NT / W2k / XP but with a bit of tinkering will be ok under 9x). Anyone want it?

                    Jojje,
Did you configure your PV VCR first?
Did you try changing TV to Cable. Actually I'm using the cable setting.
Which PD are you using and which VT ?
I have had no success with Win XP, but Win2000 Pro works like a dream with PD 5.39 and VT 2.04(Leaked). Everything, I mean HW MJPEG too.

                      Fred H,
Yes, I first ran Matrox quick connect to get PC-VCR working. I have no problem to view the channels there. When you write cabel, do you mean in the Matrox quick connect program ? That is the only place I have seen a choice between antenna and cable.

I have installed the final drivers for win2k (5.39.019 and 2.04.015).

I am using WinXP Corporate and I am not interested in MJPEG compression since I plan to record directly to DivX.

I can find one channel now, the student channel which I am not interested in viewing

                      Best regards

                        Jojje,
Yes I mean the cable or TV in the PCVCR. But you said that you can watch all you channels in PCVCR.
In AVI_IO you must set the position no. not the channel no.
In my location (also in Sweden) I have the Swedish TV 1 on position 1 but the cable channel no. is E8 in PCVCR 2.04 (Leaked).
You should set AVI_IO to TV Tuner Channel 1 (NOT 8) in this case.
But I haven't success with Win XP, so I am talking about W98SE and W2K SP2.

Ok, thank you for your reply.
I also have channel Swedish TV 1 on something like E8 (at work now so I can not check) and have in PC-VCR positioned it on position 1, but it does not seem to be any coupling between my channel mapping in PC_VCR and the channel numbers in AVI_IO.

When you say you have not got it working in XP, do you mean that you can not view the channels in AVI_IO or are you talking about MJPEG HW compression ?

                          Best regards

No, Jojje. I mean the whole d**n XP causes trouble.
I can't configure my broadband radio LAN, but in W2K is OK. I can't configure PD 5.39 nor the VT 2.04 (any of them). But ok in W2K. They causes computer crash in XP Pro. Ye$ in thi$ famou$ (? ) Win Xp. It totaly crashes.
So, away with this $crap. And I tested the XP PRO.
                            Now, I am happy with W2KPro and Explorer 6.0. What else I need? And,.........M$ M Player 6.4 (! )

I'm interested in it, but I have 98SE. What kind of tinkering does it need?
