  • Not possible to capture MJPEG with G400 + RRG

I have a G400 Dual head and Rainbow Runner G series. It will not let me record using the default settings: ie MJPEG. I've tried altering the quality slider to all positions - nothing. It does not give an error message, just the message 0 frames dropped 0 frames recorded. I can record in RGB mode fine. Is this just me? I thought I had a pretty good setup here. Any input most appreciated. Thanks.

    Hi,
Judging from the colour depth of your monitors you probably work in 32bit depth colour which is not an acceptable colour depth for MJPG capturing with the RR. Set the colour depth (on the dispaly properties) to 16bit.

      colour depth

Thanks, but thats not it. Tried all colour depths including 16 bit. Still doing nothing. I think this is a hardware problem.

Could be, but unless you're in 16 bit you won't know if/when you find a working fix

          RRG wont capture MJPEG

I've tried changing display mode to 16 bit colour depth and the thing still won't capture. The Matrox forum ha suggested reinstalling my AMD and VIA chipset drivers, followed by reinstalling the Vid card and Vid tools drivers: which I have done, and it still won't work. They have also suggested that it may be my Firewire PCI card that is caasing a conflict. Has anyone else got a Firewire card installed and a working RRG setup?
          Is it just me?
          Thanks

Just a thought, but how about updating your DirectX to a more recent version ?

Also your Matrox drivers look a little outdated to me, but since I'm not that deep into video on Matrox hardware, I guess somebody 'in the know' could verify that.

              Hi Maggi
I'm now using display driver 6.28 and video tools 1.55 as recommended here and at Matrox site, and the same situation still exists. Device manager sees the card and the RR add on fine - just the capture driver won't work properly. I wouldn't have thought that the DirectX would be an issue, as the capture software isn't exactly brand new cuttin g edge stuff. Could be wrong tho'
              Thanks for your input.

afaik, the PD6.x series is based upon DirectX 7, but I would directly go for DX8.1

Also you should check out if there's a new BIOS for your G400 available.
