  • DVD ON TV

    I've been having problems with playing DVD on my tv. My G400 works like a charm , but for some reason the picture on my TV keeps shifting it's color as well as the image quality, from dark to light and from bad to god, continueusly. Help! I have a PIII 500, 128 MB SDRAM, M G400 DH, 6X DVD, SB Live 1024 and i'm using the matrox dvd player and the one Creative incl. with the soundcard.

    It sounds like you are trying to pass the video signal through a VCR or some other device, causing the Macrovision copy protection to be activated.

    The video output of the G400 complies with the DVD standard for copy protection. You must connect the TV directly to the video card via the adapter cable to view the DVD.

      Alternatively putting a SIMA Copymaster or equivalent in the loop can disable the copy protection once the signal has gone analog.

          Thnx,

            You can get the SIMA Copymaster at VideoGuys. They also have the SIMA Pro Series Color Corrector (SCC), which is newer and may be what most of us would prefer.

            The Copymaster has Level 1 capabilities for $49 USD (NTSC) and $59 USD (PAL);

            The SCC offers Level 1 and Level 2 DVD copying capability, color correction, synch & colorburst restoration and full bypass capability so you can see a before & after preview. The SCC runs a bit more at $129, but it's worth it.

            Both have composite, S-Video and stereo audio inputs and outputs.

            SIMA makes quality products. Their titler is great as are their video mixers and ProcAmps.

              Here's a ridiculously easy way of foiling the Macrovision on TV-Out - the best application is watching DVD's on television.

              1. Start up your DVD, make sure your TV-out's set up.
              2. Once the picture starts warbling (typically after the FBI warning screens), open up your Matrox display properties.
              3. Click on monitor settings.
              4. Click on change current display mode. The screen blinks, goes to a red/green/blue configuration screen.
              5. Cancel everything.

              You should now be viewing it without macrovision. I guess the monitor configuration screen gives the macrovision a hiccup. Note that when you restart a video, the macrovision will be re-enabled so you'll have to go through this process again.

              I didn't discover this, so I take no credit for it, but I do believe I read it on this forum.
