  • 2gb captures

When capturing large files (2Gb), my files get corrupted 2/3 to 3/4 of the way thru the capture using the beta W2k marvel drivers. The error is in Media Player when playing back the file: An error occurred while playing the file. (Error=8004406D). Also I get high frame drops with straight AVI capture (uncompressed) using AVI_IO or Ulead MSP 6 even though I have a Seagate Barracuda 18XL A/V. This drive's STR is 23MB/s.

    Thanks for any help,

You should definately not get corrupted files when using AVI_IO. Did you got them with AVI_IO? The high drop rate is easy to explain. The sustained datarate is not high enough. Raw video is for PAL 25x720x568x3 bytes per second. That's 29.2510986328125 MB/sec. You also have to add the datarate of the sound part plus some overhead. Since your drive goes to 28MB/sec it's not up to the task. I personally don't know ANY single drive setup which really would be able to capture RAW video. I can do it using a raid0 FastTrack66 setup with four UDMA66 7200rpm drives.

No AVI_IO does not screw up, but it does blue screen on exit. I realize this is a known issue, but PC-VCR only blue screens sometimes. I am not able to choose a specific resolution in AVI_IO, only the preset ones, if I choose a specific one it ignores my choice.

      Thanks

There were a couple of bugfixes lately in AVI_IO. One of them included a fix with AVI_IO crashing on exit. If you are a registered user, send me an e-mail requesting a minor update. If not, download the latest trial. It may cures the problem.
