  • Considering upgrade to Marvel G450 eTV from Marvel G200.

    Hi!

    Excuse my bad english

I'm considering upgrade to Marvel G450 eTV from my Marvel G200.

Logically, before I should to sell my Marvel G200.

Mainly, I use the Marvel G200 for:

    1.- TV Output.
2.- Full PAL capture 704 x 576 (MJPEG, YUY2 ...) and Premiere editing to make SVCD and ocasionally output to tape.
    3.- Gaming (ocasionally).
    4.- Others (videoconference ...)

The main reason is because Matrox has announced NO new releases of VideoTools for Windows XP.

    I don't know to do ...

    It's that the best option?

    What do you think?

    Thanks.

    Regards from Spain.

My advice is keep with what you have and forget XP (If you have other apps which want XP, then dual-boot it). Your CPU is a tad slow for software codecs, so you may be very disappointed with the results.

      OK, Brian.

      Many thanks.

      Only a question:

Finally, I decide to install W2K but I can't install the official VideoTools 2.04 because the installation process ends abnormally.

I know that the installation file of VT 2.04 is created with Windows Installer and I think that this may have any problem.

Do you know any way of decompress VT 2.04 installation file?

      Thanks again.
      Pedro.

        Hi! again,

The exact message received from VT 2.04 installation is:

        "InstallShield Wizard Complete

The wizard was interrupted before Matrox Video Tools could be installed.

Your system has not been modified. To install this program at a later time, please run the installation again."

        Thanks.

If you want decent capture with your system, use Win98SE. It'll work fine. Some users (myself not included) have Marvels g-200/400 working under W2k, but, I think, not using the inbuilt hardware codec system, which you should use, IMHO, with your CPU.

            Hi! ,

Finally, I've got to install the VT 2.04 in W2K.

            - Applied the patch from matroxusers for MJPEG support.
            - AVI_IO to capture (I can't capture with VCR Remote because the record button is not present).

            ... and ... it works!!!

0 dropped frames at full PAL resolution but when I play the AVI with MediaPlayer the video stutter. However, if I play the AVI file with VirtualDub the image is OK.

I want to test editing with Premiere or Ulead but my first impression is that Brian Ellis are reason and W98SE is more stable with the Marvels.

Probably I return to my old W98SE.

            Regards.

the reason it skips with playback is that you're using huffyuff/mjpeg? compression, and it's not meant as playback codec, but only for capturing purposes. Convert video material to MPEG1/2/4 for playback purpose.

                Hi dZeus,

Yes. I'm using MJPEG but ... VirtualDub plays perfectly the video without skips.

I think that could be a problem with the default MediaPlayer of W2K.

As you say with MPG1/2/4 the playback is fine.

By the way ... do you know if the video go to TV Output (record to VCR purpose) when I play it with MediaPlayer as W98SE?

                Regards.
                Pedro.

it should if you're using DVD-MAX... though it has to use overlay to play back, and several factors can make a difference wether it does or not when playing back video, not even considering the difference between video player software
