Editing Video again

Well, I dug out my G400Max and RRG to edit some video again. I've got a machine dedicated to the task, a IBM Intellistation, P2 Xeon 512k with 256mb of ECC. and a single 20GB 7200rpm IDE drive. I'm looking for hints on how to capture the best quality video I can with this setup, and what settings to use so it looks good when I output it to tape. So far everything I've tried has come out looking great on screen, but really shakey when I output to TV or encode to mpeg. Any tips you guys got for me I'd love to hear.

Got that already.. Just forgot to mention the 20GB is just for video. It boots of a 6 gig disk for windows.

Anyone else got pointers to anything? I'm using MJPEG currently, and have Ulead Media Studio Pro 6.5 on order. My DVD player can play VCD's, has anyone had any luck making those?

Yes

Use of the VCD (and SVCD) templates in the DVD Plug-in with 6.5 will work well. When you have installed 6.5 don't forget to install the patches from ULEAD's site. Also download the trial of DVD Movie Factory from Ulead. This has some nicer authoring features and integrates with 6.5 very well. It's just VERY annoying that it has been introduced so early after 6.5. I was one of those that got caught out with buying the DVD Plug-in for 6.0 just to find out that it came with 6.5! I will wait to see if it comes with 7.0 (or whatever!).

Also it would be very remiss of me not to mention TMPGEnc (www.tmpgenc.com) this produces really nice VCD and SVCD files.

Also www.vcdhelp.com has a host of great information / links to do with all aspects of VCD/SVCD/DVD making.
