  • How to hack volume hook in Video Tools (PC-VCR)?

I asked a couple of months ago about getting the original VT to install and/or work with post-4.33 drivers, but no one had a solution. So, I'm trying a new angle...

I would like to know if it's possible to hack current versions of VT so that the volume control of PC-VCR hooks into Line-In in the mixer, rather than the master volume.

The reason I wish to do this is because the original version of VT that came with my Marvel G200 allows me to change the volume of PC-VCR (via Line-In) without changing the volume of the every audio app I have running (i.e. the entire system). Whereas hooking the latest Video Tools directly into the master volume is fine for people using ISA soundcards, it's extremely limiting in functionality for those using PCI soundcards (I have an MX-300).

If I can't find a way to do this, I'm forever stuck with 4.33 drivers...because I will not give up this cool functionality in the original VT that I use every single day.

Any ideas? I can also be reached at terranlost@yahoo.com

I thought it was pretty clear. Sorry.

With the original VT, I turn down the volume of PC-VCR, and the volume of everything else is not affected. This is because it hooks into the Line-In of the windows mixer.

With the new versions of VT, I turn down the volume of PC-VCR, and the volume of my entire system goes with it. This is because it hooks into the master volume of the windows mixer.

Hook into Line-In for PCI soundcard = good
Hook into Master Volume for ISA soundcard = no one cares
Hook into Master Volume for PCI soundcard = bad

Compton: Considering there are zero release notes on the functionality of the W2K version of VT, and also considering that I haven't found any forum posts or MURC articles on the functionality of the W2K version of VT concerning this particular issue, I would appreciate if you would actually say whether or not the W2K version of VT would solve this problem.

              Great.

Which leaves one question: why are the new beta binaries different than released 9x versions?

And until I actually want to install W2K, what do I need to do?

The new beta binaries are different than win9x versions because they are for W2k and not win9x.

And until you actually want to install W2K, I have no idea what you should do. Sorry.
