I recently bought a g400 marvel. However after being in ahhh about the capture possibilities and few frame drops at the highest resolutions i found a very disturbing problem.
When i capture at full PAL MJPEG encoded, so now and then my avi file is corrupted. It aint loss of frames, 'cause the capture utils i use say there are (virtually) no frame-drops (typically less then .5%) The overlay i see(at time of capture) shows no problems. Sometimes further in the resulting avi the video gets uncorrupted again.
Typically the following things can happen: The "chroma" part gets corrupted, resulting in a black-white signal while viewing in VirtualDub or over-saturated colors in Media Player. When i see the first corrupted frame i see something that looks fammiliar with a JPEG image with a few bits out of place ... moving part of the picture or changing colors. Or the signal is completely lost (audio is ok). Then virtual dub shows the last correct frame while media player shows just junk. Sometimes (not very often) my capture software (avi_io/ virtualdub) stops capturing by itself. When editing with such a corrupted avi (or even only trying to play it) can crash the editor/player and once it even hung my system (PIII 500@ 100*5, ABIT BX6, 196MB SDRAM, Dual Symbios SCSI + 2* COMPAQ 7200rpm 9.1GB HDD, SBLive)
While the overlay seems to display perfect TV output on my monitor, what could be wrong ? (is it in the G400 card maybe the MJPEG encoder or what?)
