  • MPEG1 stand-alone software codec?

Anyone know of a stand alone software codec that can capture to MPEG1, preferably VCD compliant, that could be used with something like AVI_IO and that produces nice results?

I'd love to be able to capture straight to VCD with my G400Max/RRG combo that I've got in my home theater room. I've got task scheduler setup to make AVI_IO record my favorite shows, but it records them with HW MJPEG under win2k now and I can only fit 8 hrs on the 40GB drive at High Quality 352x240x29.97 w/44.1KHz stereo. Converting to VCD with TMPEGEnc and all the nice filters takes about 3X realtime for me, after cutting out the commercials. I'd love to be able to store shows on VCDs instead of VHS.

Any ideas? Thanks a ton in advance.

This is not a codec, but another capture program. I've used it with my WinTV and the results weren't bad.

Live Video Communication - nanoStream for Windows, MacOS, iOS, Android, WebRTC. Live video encoding and streaming software with superior quality and performance - Broadcast & Studio Software - Video/Audio Live Encoding Streaming Software - Video Encoding, Decoding, Editing, Streaming

Don't remember it having a scheduling facility though...

Cyberlink PowerVCR, its not a codec but its a standalone program that records in MPEG-1 or 2 and has a task scheduler as well. And the best part is that if you buy issue 182 of PC Plus you get it free. Its what I'm using for MPEG capture right now.
