Any news about the new Nero co-existing with Adaptec's DirectCD?

I'm less than thrilled with EZCD creator, but haven't tried anything else because of reported compatability problems with DirectCD and other CD burner software :-( Perhaps these are just "rumors" but I've ran into them often enough that I've stayed with EZCD Creator Deluxe update to the EZCD what came with my burner.

Since version 2.5d, I've found DirectCD to be the most useful way for me to use CD-R for data and would have a hard time giving it up. Basically, I only use EZCD for audio or the occasional attempt at VCD 2.0

I'd gladly pay $50 to try Nero and SVCD if I had reason to think it would co-exist with DirectCD. If I have to un-install EZCD creator deluxe, I could live with it as long as it didn't mess up DirectCD.

Any Nero users with the free update care to report on the SVCD functionality?

They CAN co-exist but you have to download a custom boot menu from Ahead's Nero site and install it.

The default selection is for Nero to be active, but at bootup you can choose Adaptec instead. I imagine a knowledgeable person could edit the batch files for the reverse ;-)

As you mentioned the problem is with DirectCD and the Adaptec ASPI layer. Adaptec did some things in there that messes up many other CD writing programs.

      Wonderful.

        Hi,
I just downloaded the NERO and try to do SVCD where the MPEG file which is generated by LIGO and using the SVCD profile.
The Nero accepted the file while it cannot
burn a normal SVCD without anyone error during authoring.

Anyone has the experiment on burning SVCD using NERO?

        Thanks

I have using bbMPEG to do the compressing.

I found the bbMPEG SVCD preset was a bit high on the delivered bitrate so I manually set it lower.

I also had to adjust the horizontal motion estimation from the default of 3 to 9 or I got blockiness. If anyone is running into this problem this is where you should start regardless of the encoder.

Once those were done I could import the resulting MPEG-2 clips and burn the SVCD with Nero's default settings.

I'm also testing the new Tsuami MPEG encoder but I don't have enough results to do a complete review. So far it's about twice as fast as bbMPEG and is also a freebie.
