I just wanted to post my experiences with the new video tools on Windows 2000.
System specs:
Athlon 1.2 ghz on Asus A7V133
512 MB PC133
Matrox Marvel G450 eTV
SB Live Value
3Com 3C905
Pioneer 16x DVD as primary master
Plextor 121032A burner as secondary master
IBM DTLA-307070 30 gig 7200 RPM as primary master on Promise
IBM IC35l060 AVER070-0 7200 RPM as secondary master on Promise
Windows2000 Service Pack 2
System had display drivers and video tools from the CD on originally.
I ran the Matrox uninstall utility and restarted
Installed new display driver 5.81 and Video Tool 2.10
At this point system was working fine with the exception of MPEG playback. MPEG2 would freeze momentarily, and then resume. Certain MPEG1 videos had audio sync problems.
Haig had a post on Matrox’s forums that the new drivers needed DirectX 8.1. So I installed DirectX 8.1, but it didn’t help.
I used DirectX Eradicator 1.08 SR1 to take my system back to DirectX 7.
Uninstalled Video Tools 2.10 and installed Video Tools 2.02 from the CD.
System appears to be working just fine now, with display 5.81 and vid tool 2.02.
In conclusion: Display drivers 5.81 are a worthwhile upgrade, but video tools 2.10 are a total flop.
Hope this helps to keep others from wasting an entire day.
John
