  • Possible G400TV - Adobe Premier work around

    Now, I haven't got a chance to try this out, so please give me some feedback.

    If you capture a file using Avid Cinema or matrox's VCR thinger or whatever that is and then try to edit it in premiere, there is a high chance of running into problems. But if you move that file onto another computer and use a morgan codec on that computer, you should be able to use Adobe Premiere fine, right?????

    So, if you were to set you system up with partitions something like this:

    C-Main windows partition(the one you use for everyday stuff and capture through a matrox supported program eg. VCR thingy or Avid cinema)

    D-Video windows partiton (would not have to be large, 600MB would probably be eneough, Would not have any matrox video drivers/codecs/programs installed, except of course the G400 display driver. Would instead have the Morgan codec)

    E-Swap

    F- Video

    You could capture all your files in the everyday windows, reboot into the video editing version and edit away.

    Not quite as good as what we all want, but at least it would work.

    Does anybody see any flaws in my plan?

    Thanks a ton

    Flaws.. Yes.. The Morgon codec is nowhere near as good quality

    What problems are people having in Premiere anyway? Once you insert;

    [override]
    NoDirectShow=1

    [codec]
    keepopen=dmb1

    into your prem50.ini file, everything works flawlessly. Even works better than MSP.
    People seem to forget to insert the [codec] section in there, and only use the [override] part.

        Jason,

        I have already inserted that file in premiere. But I'm still experiencing some problems.... The rendered timeline when viewed in the target window, seems to be distorted.... But when I use "Print to Video" it works fine... Got any ideas?? Thanks a lot....

            hmmm.. I used to have problems with that (only I didn't get ANY display in he preview window), but the latest Win98 drivers fixed it.
            If you're using the latest drivers, then I can't help with that.

              The best fix for Premiere;

              Start/Settings/Control Panel/Add-Remove Programs. Select Premiere, click Add/Remove

              Sorry, I couldn't resist ;-))

                Hehehe Doc...

                I have to admit, I got a chance to play with Premiere and After Effects. Premiere I'd dump, but AE I'd keep. Premiere just isn't as easy for me to use as MSP5.2.

                  I totally agree about AE. It's a nice piece of code. I just with they'd have done a better job with Premiere itself. It started on the PC as a lousy Mac port and all they've done is put their thumbs in the dike since.

                    Well I tried that prem50.ini thingy and its seems like it might just be stable!!!

                    I couldn't find the prem50.ini file so I just created one with the few lines of text that you suggested and put it in the premiere direcetory, is this that right way to do it?

                    I also agree with you guys that for this, MSP would be be better, maybe (I can't remember if I've used it and if I did, It was a few years ago) But Im a student at a school and they have 5 licences for Adobe Premiere so what am I to do!

                        Hippie,

                        The codec part removes the REALLY annoying pausing whenever you select different clips or move from the preview windows back to the timeline.
                        The pausing is caused because everytime you choose a different clip, the drivers close the Matrox Hardware Codec and reopen them for the new clip. And as we all know, it's not the quickest opening codec.

                        The line in the ini file forces the codec to remain open at all times, therefore completely eliminating the pauses.

                        It doesn't seem to work properly on Win2k at the moment (hopefully will be fixed with new drivers), but on Win98 it's flawless.

                        Jason.

                          Hi All !
                          Is there an FAQ re:The G400-TV and Premiere 5.1 before I bore the pants off you all with an oft-answered question?

                          If not, here's the question :P

                          How do I set Premiere up to capture, edit and print to tape, full PAL videos with CD quality audio... or am I expecting too much.

                          The bundled version of Avid Cinema handles output to tape quite well, so why I am I having problems with Premiere ?

                          The problems I have seem to be related to using the MJPEG capture BUT only with Premiere.

                          I can capture MJPEG with PC-TV and AVI_IO with no problems and the playback via either of these two apps or Windows Player to screen and an external composite video monitor is almost as good as the original tape.

                          I set the Project settings for Premiere to 25 fps, mjpeg capture (best quality, full frame), CD-quality audio, and no compression rendering.
                          I've created an ini file as Jase has suggested., and still with MJPEG files captured by any app it plays as if the frame rate has dropped.

                          Believing what I was seeing was a 'feature' of using the G400-TV with Premiere, I tried to Print to tape to identify my problem area... another disappointment !
                          The audio export works but the video export either doesn't work or spits out one frame at the start and holds that frame.

                          Despite apparent software inconsistencies, I'm willing to accept a lack of user education in this field as being the reason for most of my problems and am open to (sensible!) suggestions.
                          ... and getting rid of Premiere isn't one of them, Dr M ! : )

                          System: PIII-500, ABIT BE6 mobo, IBM 20Gb 7200rpm UDMA66 HDD (unpartitioned with about 4Gb of app crap installed), 128Mb RAM, Win98.

                          Regards

                          Steve
