  • MSPro 6 and TV monitoring

    Hi folks

    Maybe Doc M. knows...
Since I switched to XP and gave up on using hardware MJPEG, I capture and edit with HuffYuv in MediaStudio Pro 6.0 .
What bothers me is that I can´t view the edited footage on the TV monitor, which to me is mandatory for serious video editing.
MSPro does show Mpeg files directly, also in MSPro´s Avi mode, and I just found out that this goes for hardware MJPEG files too. Why not other AVI codecs? If I´m correct it has something to do with using either VfW or DirectShow to get the overlay through DVDMax to the monitor.
I suppose it can be solved by editing Ulead32.ini, but I could use some help as to what should be added or edited.

    Thanx in advance

This is a problem with MSP6 that is not fixed in MSP6.5 either.

Only clips in the "source" window play out DVDmax as expected.

Vegas Video also doesnt' work with DVDmax feature.

Premiere6 is the only editor I know of that fully works with DVDmax. I though about switching because of this, but for what I do MSP is much faster and easier so I've stuck with it.

      W2K + MSP 6.02
PicVideo (AVI_IO) TV-preview OK, scrubbing=zero display on TV
HW MJPEG (AVI_IO) TV-preview OK, scrubbing OK on TV

PD 5.39 + VT 2.04(leaked), Pic Video=unwanted switch of DualHead-DVD Max from PAL to NTSC

These are my experiences in W2K Pro. XP doesn't work at all for me.

And, retested W98SE + PicVideo. The TV display with PivVideo is the same as in W2K, no scrub-display on TV. HW MJPEG is OK.

Anyway, disregarding the TV display the PicVideo files have better qual.

        Hi,

<Anyway, disregarding the TV display the PicVideo files have better qual.>

        Better quality than what? HuffYuv?
On my system HuffYuv is unsurpassed (for the moment).

B.t.w. I have neither preview nor scrubbing through DVDMax in Huff. If it works (partly) with PICvideo, it must be somewhat proprietary for MJPEG, no matter if it´s hardware or software based. I could understand that, because the Marvel is after all a MJPEG card. But MPEG encoded stuff does allow previewing and scrubbing through DVDMax, so how about that?

        Doc, help us all out.

Take care in the new year.
