We reposted the drivers with a different compression scheme.
With the original compression scheme, we use normal compression with winzip and for some reason, alot of clients were getting timed out during the download.
With a different comrpession scheme, we haven't had any time out complaints thus far.
I still can't download more than the first 1.10 megs of the 5.06 beta display driver. I encountered several other people with the same problem in the Matrox newsgroup and we are all MediaOne customers. I have an e-mail in to their support about the issue but no reply yet.
Yes, I found this very strange too, so I had someone else download it for me. He uses @Home and he had no problems.
I guess it could be something weird in the Internet switching path from my location to the Matrox FTP server. I'm sure many MediaOne users in the New England area share this same path. Maybe if a router goes down in the next few days the path will change and it will start working!
Looks like you may be on to something. The majority of our clients who can't download these drivers are from MediaOne. We also contacted them to see what may be the problem but haven't heard back yet.
Well, today I got a reply from MediaOne stating that they couldn't reproduce the problem from two different connection sites. They asked me to do a traceroute if I was still having the problem, and I am, so I did.
I just received another reply from MediaOne stating that they could not find anything out of the ordinary with my traceroute to ftp.matrox.com. Have you heard anything from MediaOne yet, Haig? It's really not a big deal to me anymore because I was able to have someone else download the driver for me and send it to me via another method, but I'm sure there are other users out there that are stuck because of this. Besides, I'm quite curious to find out what this very strange problem really is!
