Hello.
I've been cogitating a replacement solution for my G400 RR-G.
Lately, I've been noticing external Analog to DV boxes (Canopus ADVC-100, Dazzle DV Bridge).
These seem to be a good middle ground for amatuer video:
1 you can still capture all of your old Analog footage.
2 you get DV format files, which will be quite simple to integrate with future footage if you buy a DV cam.
3 You get a Hardware codec device
4 you only need to install a Firewire card inside the computer, so less install hassles (in theory).
Questions:
1. Anyone used one and have comments?
2. Can Premiere or AVI_IO capture from these devices directly?
3. When editing or playing back, can the software use the hardware codec on the device, or must a software codec be used to decode?
4. I've seen these things bundled with a hardware DV capture card. Is this of any great benefit?
Lots more questions, but that may be the ball rolling.
