    Dual display cards in Win98

    I'm thinking of running 2 display cards, a Matrox Mystique Rainbow Runner for video capture in the PCI slot and a faster video card in the AGP slot for gaming.
    Is this possible with Win98, and has anyone tried it and got any tips?

    I'd use Windows 2000, but I've heard that win2000 doesnt support the Mystique RR capture tools.

      I run dual displays this way.

      Works fine with Win98se. Just make sure your RR PCI card is set up as the primary video card in your motherboard's BIOS if/when you want to capture/edit video. (PCI/AGP)

        Been there tried that and only one at a time is available.
        Pain in the butt to keep change display adapter.
        So I dumped Mys/RRS to another M/c and bought a cheapo analouge capture card.
        Have in fact improved capture quality.

          Not quite sure what you mean by that. I have no trouble using two monitors at one time. And that's not just when using the RR, but also when I'm doing DV capture and editing. After using my present setup, I would hate to have to be restricted to using one monitor while editing video.

            As I recall for the RRS to work it will need to be attached to the systems primary graphics device so you will need to set your PCI device as primary in your motherboard's BIOS. For games most will attempt to run on the Windows primary device which can be different from your systems primary device if you are still following me! To set the Windows primary device you do this through Display Properties, there is a small checkbox that alows you to set it. Well thats how things worked under Windows 2000, I presume its pretty much the same under 98 but it's a long time since I've been there.

              Exactly the RRS will not work unless it's mother Bd the Myst is the display device.

                Seems to me I stated that five posts ago. Still don't know what you're implying by saying, "...only one at a time is available".
