  • Saving to tape

My problem is that when saving to video tape I have some parts of the sound track out of sync with lips. Not always and not always at the same point.
Also an occasional full screen green flash. These are not present when viewing the production in edit mode only on the finished tape.

I am using a Matrox Marvel G400 TV / Avid Cinema. My system is a PIII 550,
    Asus P3V4X mobo, 128 mb ram, ulradma 66 7200 27GB HDD. Defragged
often.saving to a vhs tape deck. MB bios is set to 4 x AGP aperture size
    256mb.

    Appreciate any advice.

    Regards

In the render options do you have it set to Interleave the audio and video? If not select this and set the interval to 1 frame.

Jezz...shows you how awake I was when I wrote that post....

At any rate the audio synch could be caused by the several things. Those green flashes are a sure sign strange goings on.

        1. You didn't mention what version of the Display and Video Tool drivers you're using or what BIOS version your card has. Some of these could present a problem. Sometimes just uninstalling and reinstalling the Display and Video Tools from the ground up fixes it.

        2. PCI bus overloading. This can happen with a PCI audio card, especially the SBLive Value. It can also happen if you have a PCI network card and/or a PCI modem sharing an IRQ with another device, especially a drive controller.

        3. Set the mainboards AGP BIOS setting to 2X tops. If that doesn't work try forcing the card back to AGP1x from Windows using one of the registry hacks for this purpose. High AGP settings can sometimes cause more problems than they're worth.

http://www.g200.com/ has a bunch of PDesk 5.x registry hacks on the homepage and two are for forcing AGP1x and AGP2x.

        4. Not all mainboards combined with a Marvel work well with an AGP apature of 256 megs. Some prefer 64 megs, some 128. Trial and error is the rule here. Just because the BIOS has the setting it doesn't necessarily follow that the card can actually function well using it.

        5. It could also be a bad Marvel. This has shown up in several threads and has often been resolved by an exchange. If all else fails call Matrox tech support and ask about a card swap, but not before you have exhausted all other possibilities.

            Hi Doc

My card is the Marvel G400 TVO

Just noticed on the Matrox bios site that the bios ver for the Marvel G400 TVO isted as 1.5.11

My bios ver is 1.5.22 as installed never changed. Is this a conflict of sorts.
