  • OT Pioneer in Washington DC

I'll be going to DC in March for a UN committee meeting. I thought it may be an opportunity to pick up a Pioneer DVD writer at a lower price than here.

Do any of our American friends know of a stockist in Washington or, possibly, Arlington? The Pioneer site doesn't help and the nearest CompUSA (which does not seem to stock them, anyway) is in Alexandria, VA, which is rather too far, as I'll be strapped for time.

    Thanks for your help.

Try www.newegg.com and see if you can make arrangements to have them FexEx it to your hotel. Should be ~$435.

Let me know if they've managed to fix the glitching on playback problems on DVD-R video I experienced in October.

      Brian,

I live in Springfield, VA and was living across the street from the Alexandria Compusa before. I visit it on a regular basis. It's off of I-395, which is the main highway going south from DC/Arlington to Alexandria. It would only take you 10 minutes max from Arlington to the store if they stock it.

Sales tax in VA is 4.5%, but Alexandria has a local sales tax on top of it. DC is higher than VA, I think (not sure of this) about 8%. NewEgg might not charge you sales tax, but shipping is extra.

        Thanks, Fred and Wally.

I'll try and see whether Newegg will play ball: I know a lot of these guys do not like delivering to hotel addresses (too easy for credit-card fraud, I guess). I'll ask them a little nearer the time.

CompUSA do not seem to stock this model, so I think the taxi ride to their store would not be worth the candle.

The only store I know of that sells the Pioneer is Best Buy, and last time I checked (a few months ago) they still priced it a couple hundred $$ more than web vendors.

CompUSA carries the HP, but not the Pioneer AFAIK.
