  • Studio 1 XLR Pro: Highly Recommended

I've been using the XLR Pro and the XLR Pro Jr from Studio 1 and I can recommend them both without any hesitation:

I consider these ESSENTIAL DV camcorder accessories.

    Why?

Well... let's assume one is recording dialogue with a very good microphone that plugs-in to one's external microphone jack.

Even if one manages to get an XLR-to-1/8 cable arrangement, the chances are one's microphone is a mono and not a stereo microphone (which is probably as it *should* be for reasons I won't go into here).

Well, the audio from the mono mic will wind up on only *one* stereo channel. Bummer when it is time to edit.

The XLR Pro and the XLR Pro Jr. both record mono audio onto stereo 1 & stereo 2. Very cool.

Even better, they accept XLR inputs!

I have the XLR Pro at work and I liked it so much I bought the XLR Pro Jr. for home use.

    Happy editing

I've considered this before and wondered how to correctly set the output gain since most cameras use auto gain control.

I guess you just listen to the camera output using headphones and listen for distortion.

Since this is a unity gain device, as far as gain adjustment it would really only be useful for lowering input gain. Wide open would essentially be no gain change.

Of course the ability to use balanced lines is very nice.

    Thanks for the info.
